Still having chronic pain

Started off w ibs d. Only had pain after meals which was relieved by using the bathroom then one day nausea set in constantly. Saw gastro and was put on Xifaxan and pain left, bowel movements normal. Then ibs d turned to ibs c and chronic pain and nausea are back. Below left rib to belly button with shoulder blade pain and a very loud stomach. Only get relief when I lay down. To top it off we lost our health insurance. I am at my wits end. Anxiety and depression are setting in. I don’t know what to do!

Hi Hygieneguru, sorry to hear that the relief was short lived. If the antibios worked then my guess would be sibo or another bacterial infection is at the root of your problems. If you google sibo you will see that it can recur and somtimes multiple anti bio treatments combined with diet as free from sugar - which feeds the bacteria - are needed. Perhaps worth speaking to your gastro about this? Herbal remedies can also help with sibo and are a relatively cheaper alternative, although diet still key. Good luck and keep trying!

I have had 3 rounds of Xifaxan over the last few years. I just finished my last dose mid June. Can I already feel this sick again?

Mmm - that is a bit odd. My only knowledge about it comes from the internet so not sure. But there is a breath test - 2 different tests - so they should pick up a recurrance. Maybe the course of antibios was not long enough and the surviving bacteria have multiplied since june?
