What antibiotics can people take with ibs

As far as I’m aware, you can take any antibiotic if you have IBS - but I’m not a doctor! However, antibiotics are likely to kill off all the good bacteria in the gut and thus give you IBS-d type symptoms. I take extra probiotics (Acidophilus) to combat this - and take ‘live’ cultures like bio- yoghurts and kefir.

What I did find - and other people seem to have noticed the same - was that when I was given Aciclovir for shingles, my IBS improved dramatically - and has remained much milder ever since.

Aciclovir is an anti-viral, not an antibiotic.

Interesting about the antiviral drug makes one wonder if ibs is a viral bug in the bowel. Because it is so real and incapacitating especially when the medics tell us there is nothing wrong. Thanks so much for that info.
