Why won’t my stools sink?

I’m having problems with getting my stools to sink. Normally when you go they float to the bottom but this isn’t happening for me. I get diarreah and then loose stools and sometimes fully formed stools. I’m constantly scared and wish I knew answers.

Thanks

Have you seen a gastroenterologist? If not, you should.

Normally when they float it suggests that they contain too much fat. Maybe the fat is because your diet needs looking at to cut back on your fat in take or a digestive issue, something your body isn’t digesting properly.

Keep a food diary and the times/day you have these toilet issues. This will also be useful if you do see a gastroenterologist.

Also it may be useful to ask for a Coeliac blood test as some people are told they have IBS when in fact it’s ceoliac disease. I’m one of those people. Now I’m on a gluten free diet I’m fine 😀

Good luck

Hi. If your stool floats it can also be that there is gas in it.

Thought floating stools meant you have been eating fibre.

I thought it signalled lots of gas? Is this something you feel could be a problem? If so there are lots of things you could try, such as supplements (peppermint, charcoal etc.) or dietary changes (e.g the Fodmap diet).

Bowels can be a tricky beast to tame once they go rogue but gather most of these together and yes, could be gas but that will be a symptom not a cause. Same with the runs; symptom not cause. I’ve had to balance food around what my ass wants to do for a long time now and, without wanting to dishearten you at all, it CAN change from week to week and day to day sometimes. I try to now think of it like an little irritating child who keeps changing its mind over fish fingers or sausages. What ever happens you must adapt as it’s all you have to yourself; your body and mind, so keep going and try not to worry unless the doctors do. Worry is a massive contributor to bad guts. :)
