At a loss

Hi, I am 23 and I have been hospitalised 3 times in the last 2 years. October 15, October 17 and then again last night due to severe stabbing pain in my right hand side. Every time they do the same thing : check me for eptopic pregnancy, then admitted me to the surgical decisions unit and reviewed me for appendicitis, the carried out an ultrasound to check my ovaries and finally confirm nothing showed up and put it down to flare up of ibs! When I was realised in October 17 I followed up with my GP and had further bloods done and stool sample which ruled out chrones caeliac etc! How the pain is not like my normally cramping bloating pain , it's localised to one area, from under my belly button to the right hip. I really don't know what to do, I don't ever get any answers and don't know what to do to prevent it, I can normally managed my ibs well through diet - avoiding bad food and carbs where I can so unsure what has caused it and why it's the exact same pain in the same area for 3 occasions now. Only difference is that this time I was vomiting every 30 mins which I never get wits IBS.

Has anyone experienced it or can point me in the direction of who I can speak to or anything

I am going through the same thing. I know it is frustrating not to have any answers. I finally had to go from a Gastroenterologist, to a Colon and Rectal Specialist. I had already had a second opinion, ultrasound, x-ray, cat scan and numerous ER visits. I had my appendix removed in 2011, and when they removed it, they saw large cysts on my left and right ovaries. They removed my left ovary and tube. I was 49 at time, so not sure why they kept right ovary and uterus. At first they thought I might have ulcer, than enlarged Gallbladder, than Kidney stones, then cysts on my bladder causing the stabbing pain on my right side. I have had test after test done. I think it might be a small hernia that they have overlooked. I wish I knew the answers. The pain can be unbearable. Don't give up. Find another GP if you have to, or even Colon and Rectal Surgeon. I would go to a holistic doctor, but Medicare won't pay. Them they told me it was "trapped wind" and sent me home with a prescribed antacid. It helped a little, but the stabbing pains keep coming back. Especially when I am constipated, as I suffer from chronic and severe constipation. Now, I have a dull ache under my left rib cage. It seems to never end. I am going to try one last test, a barium swallow. Just keep getting tested..asking questions until you get an answer because Doctor's are quick to dismiss you. Keep us posted. Hi i do understand your frustration, IBS has many different effects. If you already on FODMAP diet, use bran to bulk up the stools. Take 3 teaspoons on cereal to start and increase a teaspoon a day at another meal after the next bowel movement. Make sure you eat more fibre i.e. salad, potatoes fruit, but watch not too much as you need to keep the sugar element down. I have found the "join" from the small intestine to the large bowel is sometimes kinked and that can cause extreme pain as hard stools pass through. You have had all the tests so try this simple remedy. Bran is very cheap. Good luck.

You should perhaps get an MRI/MRCP to rule out something with your pancreas, liver, gallbladder, etc.

I am surprised no one mentioned possible pancreatitis either and did an MRCP????

I don't mean to alarm you but right side under rib cage could be a serious problem that needs attention or hopefully it is only IBS. However, I was told to look for a right sided under rib cage pain and if I got it to go to the doc/hosp immediately. I have IPMN cysts on the pancreas.

Hoping it is nothing but betrter to be sure. Insist on an MRCP!!!

Also check that it is not a small intestinal blockage or partial blockage.

To give you all an update, I was admitted last night after having my ultrasound for a laparoscopy and to remove my appendix.

I have had the surgery this morning and my appendix was the cause of the problem which is has been also for the last 2 years and was close to bursting this time.

I'm so grateful that this DR didn't just put it down to IBS when nothing showed on scans and took it further otherwise could have been a lot worse

This exact thing happened to me year ago!

Left side though, after all test noone had clue ...

i since found out it was gluten intolerance as soon as i stopped eating it and became regular i was fine!

Make sure ur pooping everyday to coz it could b blocked colon or constipation
