Hi. I’ve not posted on here for a while but I’m at a loss as to what to do. So I have IBS-D and constant nausea related to my IBS, but for the last fortnight I have had intermittent severe cramping like someone jumping on my stomach and pelvis and sharp pain in my lower back too. It’s waking me up at night and I keep being woken up to run to the loo without any prior warning and it’s very urgent, and I’m so bloated I look pregnant (which I’m not). Anything I eat causes me to rush to the loo. I haven’t eaten anything that would flare me up at all (I’m dairy free and avoid tomatoes onions caffeine and a whole host of other foods and drinks) I am meticulous and very cautious about everything I eat and drink. I have recently had a death in the family but can’t think of any reason why my IBS would flare like this. Sorry for the long post. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hello! Sorry to hear you’re not having a good time of it recently. I do wonder sometimes if our stomachs just kick off for no other reason than the condition. (I had similar last week). However, perhaps it is worth seeing your doctor and checking there isn’t something else (new) going on if it continues. If you’re sticking to a strict diet and don’t feel stressed, it’s hard to see what it would be. Has anything like peppermint capsules worked to ease the cramping? Might be worth trying if you haven’t already... and if it doesn’t help, seek further advice from your GP? Good luck!
Hi there,
As you have had had a recent death in the family, and your IBS has flared, I would suggest going and having a few sessions of talking therapy. Your mind may not think there is a link, but your body seems to.
Hope this helps,
Alison
Thank you. Would this be something I need to find privately or do I need to speak to my gp for talk therapy? Thanks xx
I would start by talking to your GP and see what he suggests and in what sort time frame.
