Anyone whose tried a gluten free diet how long was it before you had an improvement in symptoms? I'm not celiac but gp recommended cutting out gluten for a week to see if I have any improvement but it's soo hard to do and so far (3days in) making no difference at all. Just very frustrating, especially around Christmas.

Wheat gluten free???
Hello - I did this about 98% for a month - made no difference 😢 They do say that if you aren’t coeliac then don’t give up gluten BUT people could still have intolerances! So its worth trying. It does take a long time to know if it works..... its much easier to do than lactose free. I recently made the decision to cut out milk (not all dairy/lactose) and that has made no difference either - other than not wanting to have milk again as I have now gone off the idea of it xxx
I just feel it's pointless for just a week? But the gp has recommended it and I want to be able to say I tried when I see him next. Think I'll stick it out today, have a few days off for xmas and see. If my symptoms go nuts over xmas it might tell me something. Thanks for replying.
Hi pajohns
Definitely keep with cutting out the gluten. If you are sensitive to it, it really affects your digestion and gut flora might b out of balance too. Take strong probiotics to help gut too. Not just cut out gluten. Work on your diet too and types of food you eat ( lots of advice on these pages)... eat plain rice and easy to digest food like cooked sweet potato and squashes whilst your tummy gets back to normal... just my 3 pennies worth.
I have been gluten free for 4 years and also follow the fodmap diet. It is hard work but worth it. Cutting out gluten can take a few days to take effect so stick with it if you can. It's worth it in the long run if your symptoms are helped.
