Hello I'm Rhonda. I live in St.louis. i was diagnosed a few months ago with IBS-D its been a nightmare this past year and half. I was told i had kidney stones causing the pain for the past year after my colonoscopy i finally was diagnosed. The Dr wants me taking Metamucil for now to see if that helps. Its been a little of help but i still hurt dailey. Im exhauseted from being in pain and dealing with this. I keep reading people have flare ups. Mine seems to hurt everyday. Does anyone else hurt daily? I have cramps in my lower back and right side. Sometimes i question if its IBS. I was diagnosed in Arkansas and recently moved to St.louis so i dont have insurance yet to see a GI Dr here. I started taking pepermint leaves yesturday i seen where they help. But no relief yet.

Hi there

I live in the UK and I have lessened the pain I used to get by altering my diet i.e. I no longer eat raw carrots or onions as both give me so much pain. Wheat is another culprit for pain as well and also gives you a lot of wind. I don't eat too much broccoli and I cannot go near sweetcorn, I'm in agony if I eat it.

I take Buscupan (not sure whether you can get it in the States) and it seems to help a bit with me as well as I make up a hot water bottle, that certainly does help. Peppermint doesn't help me but it does help some people. Problem with IBS is we are all different and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other.

I hope that you manage to alleviate the pain you are getting.

Have you tried the low FODMAP diet as golf99 has mentioned? Maybe if you stick to the foods on the special IBS diet then it may work, maybe worth a try? I really feel for you and I hope that you find something that works for you soon.

Take care

Alicia

Hi Rhonda, i fully sympathize with you. I was diagnosed 4 yrs ago and am so miserable. The pain has gotten worse. When the pain gets bad I have uncontrollable pebbles of poop falling out of me. I wear sanitary pads for this reason and am so disgusted. I have medication.. lomotil, hyoscyamine (buscopan), nortriptyline, bentyl, you name it! Does it help.. yes after a while. But wears off and sick again. It is a bandaid. Food.. i have been on fodmap for years. I tried gluten free but maybe didnt give it a chance and am thinking to do it again since my pain level is at a 10 at tmes. Peppermint, etc did nothing for me. I pray you find some relief. Sometimes it helps just to know you are not alone in this.

Prayers.
