Haven't slept one bit because of my stomach!

Does anyone else find that they literally don't sleep at all some nights because of how uncomfortable your stomach feels and the constant gas and nausea that goes along with it? This hasn't happened to me ever before and I'm worried! Can IBS do this? Or is something else wrong? Please help!!

👋 yep this is IBS I suffer the same as soon as I go to bed the pains and trapped wind starts. I have read that your colon tends to rest when you do but not in my case it seems to think that bedtime is party time 😡. I got prescribed 8 mg co-codomol by my gp which I find it’s the only thing that works for me have you tried the anti-spasmodic pills such as buscopan and Mebeverine?

Hi thanks for you reply! I think I'm the same, my stomach is more active when I'm in bed it seems! I live on buscopan and Imodium, buscopan are great but I'm not sure that my Imodium still work. Do you find Imodium useful and if so which ones?

I don’t tend to use Imodium as I thought they were for when you had the runs I suffer with the constipation 🙁

Mebeverine for pain - i am a shocking sleeper full stop - due to brain surgeries and menopause but I do find Pukka night time (blue box) tea a help. I was very dubious when it was recommended to me but it does work - defo worth a try!!

Funny you mention that as I'm waiting to have a colonoscopy that check for things like this and Crohn's disease. I'm concerned that this isn't just IBS related. Do you wake often during the night needing BM?

Not so much. My big issue is bloating and gas retention. I hope the procedure provides some light. I just find it so difficult to see the right course of action.....it seems very complex

Hi there.i spent 4 hours in A andE this morning as have not slept for over 2 weeks .i go to bed and 2 hours later I am crippled with pain .its been getting worse.i don't have IBS but diverticulosis which mimics IBS simptoms.the doc.was baffled.blood work ok .thinking infection .but felt my middle part of tummy top end and God did I jump with the pain.i have had a colonoscopy and ultrasound but he was astonished as I had not had a bowel stool check .he thinks could be sibo or gastric but has asked my doc.to get me an MRI scan and stool test .he said would def.show what is going on.in the meantime given me ranitidine and co-codamol and I went home, took the tabs and got instant relief and fell asleep for a couple of hours.the point I am making here is you know your body better than anyone.if your not happy ask doctor for tests..only then can you decide how best to treat yourself .nobody should be up all night with this pain .so good luck .

I often had sleepless nights due to my IBS but not recently as I have totally cut down on carbs by following the Fast Tract Diet. Look it up. Good luck.

for the bloating go to a chemist and buy some gripe water ! really, I've tried all sorts, had blood and stool tests, finally got relief with peppermint capsules, went on summer hols without them, suffered badly then had a brainwave, young kids with bloating, give then gripe water... hay-presto. some three months later and no symptoms of ibs ? it turns out that gripe water contains dill oil, do a search and you'll see.

nothing to loose
