IBS and no real answers

Do you find that whenever you visit a Doctor you feel like they are not really interested?

The old IBS is the standard answer and not real advice and guidance ?

Yes, unfortunately. I've responded by researching the syndrome myself, finding out what applies to me (trigger foods, motility problems, gas trapped in bends) and come back to doctors with specific treatment proposals for myself.

Do not waste your time trying to get your dismissive doctor to belief you or to take you seriously. It's not worth your energy.

If you want to research your own case, I started with basic biology educative websites to learn about the gastric process and organs.

I agree with WoolPippi. They are not at all concerned with patients suffering with IBS. And for the physiological effects it has on us....a prescription for anti depressants....no thanks!

Totally agree with what has been said below. Although I am lucky that I have quite a sympathetic doctor he doesn't recommend or even know what to recommend to me so I find out how to treat the condition by looking at comments on this forum and researching on the internet.

Also, a few years ago I asked my doctor if I could see a dietician as it had been recommended to me by someone that had recently been trained as one, I finally got him to agree and refer me to one only to find that 6 months later the funding had been removed!!

I have to say the reason why I get stressed with this condition is I keep thinking 'oh, that's something else I can't eat', I so wish, like loads of others on here that they could eat as much of the good stuff i.e. fruit and vegetables, as they liked but can't.

Completely agree. Have been sent home from the hospital and the gp so many times without giving me a full all clear otherwise in order to properly diagnose me. It's like the health service (in Ireland anyway) don't want to pay for scans, scopes etc

I had to go private and pay 1700 euro for my colonoscopy

the doctors are absolutely useless with regard to things like back pain and ibs as all they want to do is type out a prescription for items to treat symptoms and to be fair the items are helpful but they only treat symptoms they don't get to the root cause of the problem.

have a think about if there's anything you can do to help yourself no matter how small it is.

Not what you're looking for?
