I have diverticulitis and irritable bowel syndrome. The diet for one is contradictory to the other diet. What diet can I follow with any relief????????

Are there foods you can eat that have neutral affects on your condition?

I have found many foods (by trial and error) Often times, for me, I think stress/depression plays a major roll in my IBS. So I am involved in a study using CBT (Cognative Behavioral Therapy) for the mental aspect of this condition.

I hope you are able to find some relief. I know these are debilitating conditions.

I have the same problems, but you don't say which ibs you have. I have the constipation one.

I stick with soluble fibre foods if that's any help. I also use ground ground golden linseed

Grannycake l hate to butt in you have the constipation Ibs? I do to Grannycake and

l suffer with it constantly it seems. I know l have got to the place l hardly eat at all anymore. Lost weight and my doctors are really concerned. l am hungary but you know you get it into your head sometimes you may not be able to have a bowel movement the next day. My Doctors are telling me to eat anything that l want now. Have spasms sometimes too. l have dealt with ibs for 2 years and l know a lot of you have suffered a lot longer l'm sure. How in the world do you manage? Thanks for reading.

But in any time you like,it's a case of trial and error. I went through most of the medication given me but nothing worked. Go on the net and look up soluble fibre. Bet you didn't know there were 2 kinds, soluble and insoluble

I switched to soluble fibre last August,it's not been perfect but a great help along with golden linseed. Like everyone says here,we are all different so we sometimes have to do what's best for us. Certainly get going with eating, you need food like a car needs oil to go. If you don't eat you open your body to other problems. Eat what you want and do some research hope this helps

You know Grannycake my mom used to say the same thing! I know she worried herself also about me! I feel bad about that but it was not going to stop. l am 68 years old Grannycake and l believe my mother and you know a lot more than the doctors at times. :)

Thankyou for replying too!

Thanks for the compliment. I am 74 ,think we should stick together xx. Keep going☺️

in reply toGrannycake

You are correct about sticking together. When you do you get more done plus sometimes you can share info the other may need! I miss my Mom and she was a very out spoken lady!

Yes definitely Golden Linseed although I haven't been having it ground down, only whole seeds soaked it water. It's fantastic and does really help

I have diverticula and IBSC .select fruits and veg from Fodmaps diet .Avoid IBS triggers like any thing in the onion family . no tomatoes .limited red meats .Limited breads .lots of water/liquids and daily magnesium morning and night .Peppermint before bed.eat sparingly and never after 7pm .Not a cure but just about manages things apart from early morning cramps that subside on getting up and moving around .Still get diverticula flare ups occasionally but achieve a daily bowel movement 95% of the time .However straying from my limited diet and changes in routine ,i.e. Travelling can rapidly cause all kinds of problems that can take sometime to Get back to normal .Been like this for some 20plus years now !

Quite comforting to find someone out there with the same problems. I shouldn't laugh, but over Christmas I found Thorntons chocolates were a great help for constipation, which reminds me I must them on my shopping list!

Well done living with this awful combination of ills
