3.5st (intentionally) and I became underweight but I had the blood test to investigate IBS specifically it just so happens that was the same time where I was at my lowest weight x

So it wasn't caused by your IBS ?

Yes, my standard blood tests showed Vit D deficiency but I too am not sure whether that has anything to do with my low weight due to IBS-D. Let us know how you get on x

From what I have read, vitamin D deficiency seems quite common in IBS sufferers.

But we can boost it by getting out in the sun for 10-20 mins a day, no digestion required.

I was prescribed Protein shakes by my gastroenterologist. I was supposed to take 4 per day , but could only manage 2 on a good day.

I lost nearly 3st. Due to IBS c.

It has taken me a year to gain about 10 lbs. Like you I feel that my body isn't absorbing the nutrients I need. I have taken probiotics but found that they me feel sore and bloated.

I eat porridge and blueberries. I went through a spell of eating loads of prunes which did help with the constipation and helped me gain weight, probably all the sugar.

I'm feeling awful at the moment. Eating avocados with sweet potato, fish and chicken.

Angie,

Have you been checked for Candida and SIBO? Have a look at this article and see if your symptoms correspond: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

Yes i am underweight, i have always been slim but definitely lost weight since having ibs. And i have ibs c. Doctors dont seem overly concerned when i mention it, but like you i feel i am not absorbing minerals/vitamins etc. Its not vit d as i live in the sunshine so get plenty.

How much weight did you lose. I lost 13kg in 10 weeks. I've just bought some vitamin supplement to see if that helps as I am tired and lot

Since August about 18Kg, I think it is a slow process. Have you had your electrolytes check to see what you are low in ?

No not yet but have to have more blood test done. What do you do for food. Been trying fodmap diet but not sure it is working

Try the food Maestro app, eating basic fruit and veg that are on the safe list. The app says I can't have any meat, not sure I have filled it in properly.

i got folic acid prescribed as it came back deficient in my latest blood sample. I lost a stone in weight in one month - i am unwell but but bloods and scans keep coming back ok apart from a rectocele which showed on a proctograme - I have borborygmi (loud rumbling in gut) real bad but dr's not concerned. I was told I need to eat more greens but I eat loads so it looks like my body is not absorbing them.

I can't believe that you have lost 18 kg and been left like that.

As you know, the problem is how to absorb the nutrients if they pass through your system too quickly. You need to find out why:

Do get tested for SIBO and candida if you haven't yet. Check the symptoms in my article and see if they fit:sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

Another thing to talk about with your doctor if you think it concerns you is bile acid malabsorptionpatient.info/health/bile-ac...

I also have a hypothesis about the root cause of IBS-D (and C) that you might find of interest: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

I hope something here helps you Lynne.

Alison (I have beaten my IBS)

I have tests for everything though, they did check for bacteria in the gut and it was negative.

God, not 18Kg 😱, about 21 lbs 😂

You wrote "18 kg since August" further up the page. in a reply to Pierre. 21 lbs is much less, but still quite a lot:)
