Problems with mebervine

GP has recently prescribed mebervine. After taking it for a few days I started a headache that just wouldn't go away. After a few more days I decided it must be the mebervine and stopped taking them. The headache went . Has anyone else had this side effect? What did you take instead?

Hi megplus

Sorry to read you have had side effects from Mebeverine!. There is another anti spasmodic your GP could prescribe buscopan that might help you. Good luck. X

Sorry to hear that. I have been on Mebeverine for nearly three months and you are quite right at first I did have a slight headache but it passed after a week. From what I understand you have to give the tablets a few weeks to start working correctly. For me they are wonderful and really do help manage my symptoms. I also tried peppermint oil tablets but they made my problems much worse. I would suggest speaking to your GP and I guess what suits one person may not suit another. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you x

I agree with the peppermint oil making things worse. To be honest I found no benefits taking mebeverine so stopped taking them after a few weeks.

I was prescribed peppermint capsules initially and they made me feel shaky and really weird. I have found Mebeverine quite helpful and also use Yakut when I feel a bad flare-up is on the way. I think regular use of Pro biotic tablets is helpful too.And I came off wheat and gluten many years ago which has helped enormously.
