Hi, not been on here for a while, but I've had a painful, bloating etc flare up for the last 4 days. My Gastroentologist has resigned & im now waiting for another one to take over.
My question is, has anyone tried Acupuncture? I'm a 62 old retired female & had I.B.S & Lactose intolerance for the last 2years.
Thanks,
Jackie

hi,Jackie ill be interested to know how you get on.My appointment is this Thursday ,recommended for me by Pain Clinic NHS,its at my local hospital.Good luck! Ann
Hi, Ann I'm back home now having had a thorough pre treatment History of my medical & surgical history & all drugs I'm taking before having the acupuncture treatment.
Dr Jeni was very kind & gentle & the needles were painless. If I got a strange feeling or hot or a cold sensation she would move the needle. This only happened twice. The needles where placed in different parts of my body & we're in for 15mins only. She told me I'll feel tired following the treatment. I'm going back next week & possibly have herbal medicines too.
My diet was discussed & some of the foods I have following on the fodmap diet I can't have now! No eggs, white meat only, no bacon, ham, gammon, chips, vinegar, cold drinks especially lemonade to name but a few. Drink hot water & only occasional cup of tea.
The charge for the Consultation was £10 & £35 for the acupuncture.
I live in the North West & my husband noticed a certificate saying she did work for the NHS too. I may ask her about this next week.
So apart from feeling tired I'll see how I feel tomorrow as I could ache Dr.Jeni said.
I have been having acupuncture for a few years now. I go to a Chinese doctor. At first he prescribed some herbal medicine in the form of pills but I began to have migraines after taking them, so stopped. I now just have a 45 minute session of acupuncture, which includes a lovely head massage and is painless. If my IBS is bad I will see him every week or two but once he has got things more under control it is more like once a month. I find it helpful, but whether this is more of a psychological thing ,I don't know. He says that changes in the weather affect IBS and also advices me never to have really cold drinks.
Hi, I felt okay today after the Acupuncture but not so the IBS! It's difficult to get my head around this what I can eat & can't. My husband went a bit over the top with the veg I can have & trying to explain why too much is not good either!! Like you linedance I was told not to have any cold drinks either, bit difficult in this heat. I hope I can get some benefit from the acupuncture & any remedies.
To top it all, I now have a replacement Consultant Gastroentologist & have an apt to see him next month. The Chinese Doctor said that Chinese people mix the Eastern meds with the Western too. Have you done this?
