Hi just posting this for some direct advice. I have ibs and control it by diet and exercise yet I was on amitriptaline at the same time which helps loads but the doctor said my body may be immune to it now and wants me to introduce sertaline. Anyone tried this??

Hi I take sertaline as I suffer from anxiety, it definitely helps with the anxiety but not sure it makes much difference to my ibs. I find the only way to help this is with diet and exercise.  I don't have any side effects from sertaline, hope that helps.

hi ! i 've been prescribed sertaline (this is the generic name ) but in the brand name Zoloft.. took it for months  ..i call it baby stuff ..did absolutely nothing to my OCD nor my IBS ..so I stopped taking it ..but each IBS  case is different.. if it didn't work for me it could work for you .

NOW ..my doctor wants to give me amitriptaline saying it is stronger than Zoloft for OCD and better for diarrhea as it causes constipation as a side effect .

My case is IBS -D ..That's why .

Again each ibs case is different ..you might want to give it a try .

Good luck :)

That's so strange my doctor said the complete opposite. I don't think anyone really knows how to cure ibs for good other than naturally 😬😬😬 but will keep trying. Thanks for your message

Hello Franjanu --- I am now approaching 78 y.o.a. and had suffered chronic IBS until a few years ago when I experienced a nasty dose of Gout which some pills from my wonderful GP cured in a few days ( keep off tomatoes ! ) My Doctor took a blood sample which returned a diagnosis of Borderline type 2 Diabetes ( now well under control )

I read up on the Diabetes on NHS Choices and decided on my own diet. ----- NO sugar of any kind ---- Cut out everything with a trace of fat and everything WHITE --- No chips, White potatoes, White bread, Pastries, etc: No packet breakfast cereals ( I now have porridge made with water with a few fresh fruits on top ). Just think Brown Bread Etc:

During my early 20s my IBS was so bad that I had pain & blackouts once a month and then a week off work to recover. In desperation for a diagnosis my Doctor sent me to the Newcastle Royal Infirmary for an exploration --- over four days and three specialists found no cause and said it could be abdominal migraine. If only I knew then what I know now .

I blame white potatoes ( mash is the worst ) and white bread.......

Please try it ---- God bless..
