I watch Trust me I'm a doctor on TV n recently they did an article about saccharin.

It appears to affect the bacteria in the gut.

Has anyone ever heard this before ?

I have used saccharin for many years.

No idnot but it's only recently that I realised how much health is generated by what's in our gut, and when there is not enough good bacteria to sort out the rubbish that's when we seem to get problems.

And I suppose it not easy to sort out in any case. I mean even medical opinions and medicines seem fluctuate over the years tellin us one thing then many years later opinions change. Yes I think I have heard about sweeteners causing problems for many years, though I don't know which ones as I've never taken them.

sorry I'm not much help really😏😊

Well I just watched that massive creamer explosion, you never know what's coming next in life is all I can say!

Re saccharin and other artificial stuff, once I read about it in conjunction with low FODMAP ideas I came off them all completely.

Once I was no longer having coffee, tea, cocoa, loads of milk it was a very small step.

They interfere with your chemistry, just no good.

I still have sweetness cravings though.this is turning into my question, do those cravings for sweet stuff ever go? 4 months in and I still need a dessert!

Aspartame for one creates Formaldehyde which is a wood alcohol similar to ants sting used in embalming fluid major cancer causer for one apart from dna damage.

Any artificial thing is bad for us they don't make it for us it's just for there fat profit look and learn don't be a sheep.

Fizzy drinks are your worse or one of them enemy all these kids today are going to be very ill in years to come apart from ricketts!

As been said coke for one is acid the body sees as poison takes calcium from your bones(vitD) to neutralise it so you become deficient but artificial sweeteners lock the vitamins in the food so the body can't replace it the worst is doc peppers followed by cokes.

the only things i drink now are tea.water.coconut water(just plain type check label)

You have the net do a search on things word it various ways and you will find it there look up the world according to monsanto for one there behind so many bad chemicals not just killer weed killers

for me as someone that has a tumor im more circumspect on things

another thing is bread steer well clear of likes of kingsmill(packaged mush) all those breads are full of chemicals subway in usa has petro chems in there bread but it's banned by the EU.

As they say you are what you eat!

I eat wot I consider is a fair diet. Lots of chicken n fish no sweet things ie. Biscuits, cakes , little chocolate .

Rice, pasta, love fruit n veg ( avoid the obvious!)

Salads, sweet pots, occasional chips.

Breakfast rice cereals, w/meal bread , olive oil spread. Honey, marmalade n jam.

So I don't think its too bad.

Gonna buy Stevia Sweeteners.

Stay away from artificial sweeteners. Stevia is ok. (Go to Help for IBS) website? It is run by Heather Van Doross.

Best to you.

Very good, Pandora...! About aspartame: it actually turns to formaldehyde once it reaches your body temperature. This is what coroners use to embalm people's dead bodies to preserve them. There have been cases where some bodies have been exhumed (for whatever reason) and even after years the bodies were STILL in good shape (from some people's medical records re heavy duty artificial sweeteners). (honest...read studies, not making this up! :) ) At least an effort has been made in the US to stop using this horrible substance. A teaspoon of REAL SUGAR would be SO MUCH LESS harmful...even better, natural (not refined) sugar... (turbinado)

Oh yes, saccharin is very bad, made from all chemicals, need to get on a more natural sweetener. Here in US I have found a couple to be better if u can find them. Stevia is best made from leafs of the stevia plant or the other other is sucralose. Get off of it. The other one that is out there its called Equal, that is worse, heard it can cause seisurzes. Good luck...

I knew for a fact that Stevia was a natural sweetener, I saw a programme on it a few years ago but I have also had a look on the internet and come across Erythritol, Xylitol and Yacon Syrup. I've heard of Xylitol before but I have heard of the other two. I use sweeteners in my coffee and tea and have to say I have been thinking more and more lately that I ought to buy Stevia as sweeteners are not good for you.

Therefore saccharin is bad for you and I know that I have to stop using it myself. I have also read many times that it's bad for IBS.

Best of luck

Well, Pandora... you've tried! And really, its all you can do... here is something positive (we can all use that! :) ) Some people's belief systems are so strong that it will actually TRANSCEND what they eat or drink and NOT hurt them... I can site many examples of this... But it doesn't mean one can suddenly say OK I can do this and that and all will be ducky dandy...nope... it has to be part of one's actual belief system... This may be true in the case of your parents...So... just love 'em and let them do their thing. You sound like a really nice person! All will be well.

I am also going to,stop saccharin in my hot drinks n go onto Stevia. 👍

Best is a spoon of honey! has nutrients to unlike sugar/sweeteners

I got off coffee as used demerarea sugar now just drink tea without.

but another thing with sweeteners is? high cholesterol linked to low Vit D so if vit D low it goes up.but guess what destroys VitD??? Sweeteners plus fizzy drinks/cokes as there acid which promotes cancer growth! they body brings calcium out of bones to neutralise stomach which is vitD but the sweeteners prevent the body from absorbing vitD from the food to replace lost plus other vits why so many are vitD low

The gut does so much for us most of your immune system is in there.

But so much GMO rubbish now is destroying or system linked to massive increase in autism.obese along with sweeteners use. birth defects just look at Brazil now with babies born with shrunken heads!.Strokes.heart defects and so so much more ho plus decrease in male fertility direct opposing line as it's increased mf has decreased along with lack of bees.little birds and now they say butterflies
