As xxxPandoraxxx says drugs are probably not the answer

Maybe you should try to find out if there is a food group giving you the problem

You could do an intolerance test by leaving one food group at a time out of your diet like dairy but keeping a food, bowel movement and pain diary to see what changes there might be. You should do each group for at least 2/3 weeks.

You can use completely dairy free products

You may not be ceoliac but you could still be intolerant of wheat

I have had Setraline prescribed but haven't taken it yet...........too worried about side effects. Not much help I am afraid, except that you can take 25 mg a day, rather than 50 mg. I have 50 mg tabs prescribed because they are the smallest dose in a single rounded tab, but GP instructed 25 mg a day, i.e. break in half, because I am super sensitive and reactive to meds (had a violent reaction on one Citalopram tab only). This also is a child's dose. Interested to read of anyone else who has tried or is on Sertraline.

I take it because the meds I am on for endo cause depression.

I had no idea it could help IBS/pain. I certainly haven't noticed any positive effects on this unfortunately.

(no bad side effects from it though!)

My advice is don't touch it!! One of it's side effects is diarrhoea and it certainly delivered! Can't believe you've had it prescribed for IBS! The symptoms lasted several weeks after stopping the drug and even my doctor said 'Oh yes, likely to give you an upset tummy, a funny spaced out head and reduce your libido to nil. I saw it described at 'the drug from hell' and would tell anyone to stay well away from it.

Interesting comment. Have it in the drawer - see my previous post. One Citalopram tab only gave me violent diarrhoea for 15 hours. I stopped it immediately. It was prescribed for basic anxiety causing IBS. So since reading your post, I am thinking, why wouldn't Sertraline do exactly the same to my system. I an definitely going to stay away from it - thanks for the advice.

Ok well I have not taken the setraline and instead started to take quiet life pills (like kalms but cheaper) and started to drink decaf tea as caffeine can irritate the bowels, might also go for the lactose free approach too. Will let u know how that goes 😊

Cheers guys

I have IBS constipation and just been diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis. I am on meds’ for that. I was prescribed sertraline 3 weeks ago as I am very anxious about the uc. The past 3 weeks have been horrendous. However, today was a good day. Let’s hope it continues. I have also been on the fodmap diet for a week.
