Has anyone any update on the trials that were done last year in UK for a hand held vagus nerve stimulator held on the vagus nerve on the neck for IBS. I know it is being tested for all types of ailments at the moment and am keen to hear of any outcomes from the IBS test?
It would be a total godsend for people who are intolerant of drugs or for whom drugs simply don't work.

Sorry not to reply till now.
I have an autoimmune disease Sjogrens and with it comes lots of horrid symptoms affecting bowels, biliary tract etc, anyway last year I read of a new treatment now being used on patients in America and Holland for Rheumatoid Arthritis patients. It was a vagus nerve stimulator which is implanted in the neck, it has proved to be very effective for those patients. It is now being trialled in the UK.
Just after that I read about another type of vagus nerve device for IBS which is only held against the skin and not implanted. It has been trialled at the London Free Hospital by a Dr Owen Epstein and they say results of the trial should be out by now.
I have been trying to discover the outcome but cannot find any more information. The vagus nerve goes between the brain and the gut and it can influence many diseases but it is still early days .
I cannot tolerate so many medications that I am so hoping something like this will come out soon, as I expect many others are similar with drug intolerance.
I just wondered of anyone on this forum had heard any more.
Thank you for getting back to me. I am going to look up the information. It amazes that London, do so much more than the United States in studying IBS. I wonder if it was for IBS-C or IBS-D. I take 3 medications for my IBS. They really don't help that much. I gave to also watch what I take,; because I have Sleep Apena.

Hi. I know that I am pretty late to the party here, but last year the FDA approved a non-surgical vagus nerve stimulator to treat adolescent IBS. I don't think they have done trials with adults yet.
