So, after a year of being really unwell with ibs-d, not being able to eat anything much, losing a lot of weight and having major anxiety issues, everything seemed to have settled down, I started to put on weight, and felt a bit calmer about things. So I decided to start dieting (generally eating healthy) and exercising.
This is only the first week and I have been flipping between constipation and diarrhoea, and a lot of bloating. But last night was the worst, I thought my stomach was going to explode, I had diarrhoea all night, which is still continuing now (which I don't understand because there can't be much left in me)
I'm just really fed up to be honest. I just wanted to be a bit healthier, and this is how my body reacts. I know that probably sounds ridiculous...
I just really don't want this to be a repeat of last year, I had a little "accident" last night also, and just managed to get to the toilet in time. I feel like I am going to start doubting myself on public transport again, and that really makes me upset with myself.
Sorry to rant like this, it's just really frustrating! Has anyone else experienced problems from trying to eat healthy?

When you say you have been eating healthy food do you mean more fruit and veg so a higher fibre diet? In that case have you been tested for Fructose Intolerance.
Also have you been tested for SIBO ? Its very prevalent in Coeliacs and goes undiagnosed. you will need a LACTULOSE test for it. The test is the same breath test as for LACTOSE but with a different solution to drink.
Thanks for your replies. Yes, I've been eating more fruit and veg. I was put on the Fodmaps diet, and pretty much stick to that but I think I need to look into fruits more carefully to see which are good and bad. I didn't know you could be tested for fructose intolerance, I was in and out of hospital for so long and I had none of these tests done. Feels like once they decided it was IBS, that was it and they got rid of me! I was going to try the silicol gel, have either of you tried that?
There are are several recommended low-FODMAPs fruits and veggies that didn't suit me either, the worst were blueberries, grapes, raspberries and bananas. I stuck with FODMAPs, but when I discovered I was still having a few probs, I eliminated all fruit and veg then reintroduced them one-at-a-time until I picked out the blighters that were giving me trouble. A lot of people on here have, in the past, mentioned blueberries as a no-no.
Silicol Gel did nothing for me, but it may be worth giving it a try as we're all different
Hi Emily87, you must be so disappointed with the results of doing what you felt was a good thing for you.
Like you, I have had problems with 'healthy eating' that involves lots of fruit and vegetables. even if I keep to the FODMAP regime of 'allowed' fruits, I still have trouble with citrus and anything really that isn't grapes or bananas or soft fruits (gotta watch not to have too much of those though!). I really enjoy vegetables because sometimes i feel I really need a large meal and something I can chew but again, somethings that are okay on the FODMAP list do not suit me.
Accepting with some measure of serenity (as in the Serenity Prayer used by so many overcomers organisations) what our bodies will and will not tolerate is key to not upsetting ourselves on top of having a chronic problem - stress is known to be a major factor and in my case can trigger off extra sensitivity.
Also, if you are in a situation of change and transition, even if it is good and enjoyable, can set off our sensitive tummies. Be compassionate on yourself and go slowly forward. best of wishes.
I know this is an old post but they are the only ones coming up for me, Sorry I am new here.
I have the same problem. At times I feel better and try to introduce very small amounts of foods I couldn't eat the last 2 years. I always ate very healthy all my life.
I was doing very well, for a couple of weeks, stepping a little bit out of low Fodmap diet. I could manage 2 brussels sprouts, green beans, lettuce, broccoli, half a stick of celery, kale, half a dozen snap peas, pak choy. I could even eat a small bit of seed and grain bread again and a bit of brown rice. I could up my fibre a bit with no bad effects and it was all going steady and my bm's were pretty good some days and really normal other days. no bloating or pain.
But I was still being careful and not going crazy with all these steamed veggies etc. But the most horrible flare hit me last 2 days even so. The only hope I think is to eat very low fibre if and when I can eat again. I just know what any fibre of any kind will do to me right now.
