Hi,
About 3 years ago I developed a duodenal (peptic) ulcer which was spotted during a gastroscopy. It caused me to have pain both in my chest and frequently through to my back just as you describe. At these times it hurt to take a deep breath and sweating was also prevalent. It's almost certain that a gastro will arrange for you to have the same procedure that I did.
Most duodenal ulcers are caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori which is treated with antibiotics.
Hope this reassures you a bit.
Roz
I have been investigating the symptoms of gluten and as someone who has suffered with gastro problems - gall bladder removed at 29 - duodenal ulcers treated as the Helicobacter Pylori virus is treated - massive penicillin bombardment for 7 days. Then common bile duct stones - IBS when the pains cannot be diagnosed as anything else - I have transformed lifestyle since last October when I felt so ill with stomach chest and Back pain - had a heart scan and ultrasounds and nothing established although consultant said he thought it could be an ulcer because the HP virus treatment isn't permanent. So I have only eaten veg and fish white meat occasionally - no processed, no pastry biscuits white rice or pasta. Lots of avacado and stoneground Wholemeal bread a little fruit and porridge. Butter and a little cheese and SS milk and plain Greek yogurt. Tried to kick sugar and eat good fats - I have lost 23lbs - much needed - power walk for 3/4 times 60 minutes each week and feel amazing however...........I have to occasionally turn to omeprazole when that niggly pain returns. So a long story to get to gluten free - the symptoms mirror many digestive disorders so I am going to go one step further and enter into gluten free. Fudgiegirl I hope you feel better soon - those pains are misery and have such a nasty effect on your daily life.
thank you for your story . I just hope a gastro doc can help get me sorted.- its been a problem on and off - and gets me so depressed. Hoping for light at the end of the tunnel. best wishes to you
wonder about gluten with me also- just wonder why so many people are having this problem.I sincerely hope for some help as I am getting very depressed with it all
have had all bowel tests, gynae tests and eventually they have diagnosed a functional bowel problem... I have morning diahorrea daily and nausea most days - also fatigue...I dont really get bouts - usually nearly every day with just a few days a month when I feel slightly better. Thankfully I am a stay-at-home mum and when the kids are at school I often go back to bed for a while in the morning..... I am 42 and my 82 year old mother has more energy lol. This has been going on for 4 years now and having seen 3 specialists I have resigned myself that this is how life is going to be for me. bit depressing huh? seriously considering cutting gluten out of my diet despite blood tests and endoscopy both being negative....
