I have been taking 3 a day for a while now, but the cramps etc are back and seem worse. Am I wrong in thinking that the tablets are not working anymore?????

Can the effects of mebeverine wear off?
I take Mebeverine three times day, too and have done for nine months. Even so, I do still get the cramps after eating at times, so they don't work brilliantly. However, when I've forgotten to take them, things have got worse, so they must have some effect. Things are definitely worse for me if I'm stressed or worried. If things are getting worse for you, then I would suggest you go back to your GP. There is other medication that you could try. Take care.
I take mebeverine 3 times a day and like Genevieve says still get an occasional cramp but they're far worse if I don't take them. The main thing I've found is the timing when j take them it has to be as close as poss to 20mins before I eat the less time the more likely I am to get a cramp. Also Symprove has dramatically reduced the cramping pain when I go to the loo.
I also take mebeverine, three times a day , and sometimes take two before a big meal. From my point of view , the jury is still out as to whether they have any effect , but when you have diarrhoea , cramping, aches , nausea, you will try anything lol.
My own recent strategy is to take the mebeverine as prescribed , buscopan (avaialable over the counter) for when the cramps come on (great for curing this) , immodium for any morning diarrhoea ,and peppermint tea first thing to settle my stomach. On bad days I will take cocodomol, only prescribed by your GP ,which is essentially a pain killer, but does wonders for cramps/ diarrhoea , as it bungs you up for days, and kiills any pain , but I believe it can be addictive , so use sparingly.
This may all seem a little extreme , but its either that , or become housebound ! I have recently started following a v.stict gluten free diet, which has seen immediate good results , so this could be an easier , although expensive route to follow , which has reduced my tablet intake big time.
Hope this helps.
Interested to read this Paulus. I have recently been diagnosed with a functional bowel disorder after 4 years of almost constant morning diahorrea, nausea, light-headededness, frequent headaches. After a barrage of tests including endoscopy, barium enema, sigmoidoscopy, blood tests, celiac etc all of these came back clear and so IBS was the diagnosis. From reading on various forums I had thought that IBS occurred in bouts and disappeared for a while but I seem to suffer on a daily basis - worse in the mornings and fairly ok in evenings..... someone suggested a sensitivity to gluten, not an intolerance although I havent explored this yet. I have been given an anti-depressant to treat the brain/gut nerves but not much improvement. Does this sound like IBS as nausea and diahorrea are my only symptoms - rarely do I have pain or bloating....
Flirtygirty - did they do a SeHCAT test for Bile Acid? or Breath test (Glucose/Lactose) for SIBO? Your symptoms are very similar to mine but I only had problems for a year. Antidepression medication did not work for me either. I'm waiting on the Bile acid (SeHCAT) test results but work's Dr has been pushing Chronic Fatigue as my sleep has been badly affected - its not a diagnosis I want but if I can get some treatment that works who cares. Another thought - which antidepressant are you on - my own experience was some SSRI' s (I feel) made my D worse!?!
I didn't realise that my lack of sleep was down to this. I always thought it part of my depression!
OK Update since my initial question. My dr has changed me from Mebeverine to Buscopan!!! Hope this works?
