How long have you been taking it? Sometimes it takes a few week to work but for some people it doesn't help.

It might not be the tablets it could be something you ate in the last week. Amitriptyline made me very groggy but I do not recall it making my gut symptoms worse (but it did not improve them either). Mebeverine is different - it’s not an antidepressant but an anti spasmodic so it slows down your gut but you have to take it 20-30mins before you eat. If you not good with tablets or planning and want an anti spasmodic could try Buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide) you can take when you need them - up to 2 tablets 4 times a day. You can buy them in the supermarket and see if they help before getting on prescription. Peppermint tea is quite good - or at least not irritating to my guts. Hope you feel better soon.

I was told to take it for a least 6 weeks before it starts working and not to give up. It takes time to start to work. I hope this helps x

I've been using amytriptyline for the last couple of months and though it's doesn't reduce bloating, it does make it less annoying. I went up to 40mg but got ringing in my ears, so have cut back to 20mg and it seems to be as effective.
