To be honest there is no right and wrong answer as things affect different people different ways. The most common triggers are dairy, fried, spicy foods. Alcohol and smoking can have effects. You really have to eliminate things one at a time and see if it helps. Keep a food dairy. You may also find something that upsets your stomache one week may not another week. It's very annoying. Certain fruits are triggers mainly citrus

thank so much for the advice

Go back to your GP and ask for a referral to a dietitian so that you can get some ongoing help. In the meantime, probably the best thing to do, is to keep a detailed food diary and see if you can nail down the foods which affect you worst and in which way they do so.

You may also find it useful to read through as many of the questions, posts and responses on this site as you can - even if they don't seem to refer to what you want to know - you'll learn a lot that way.

I find onions affect me quite badly, but only if I eat a lot. I agree about citrus fruits. Anything pulpy affects me. I also avoid things like lentils.

Wheat is supposed to be a major trigger, but I don't think it is for me as if I have pasta for dinner, I usually have a 'reasonable' day the next day. Sadly man cannot live on spag bol alone :)
