Hi, I’m going for a MRI in the morning, it’s so the oncologist can see if it’s safe to carry out the radiotherapy. The choice has been left up to me if I want it. I asked my surgeon what he thought and he would say either way. I had a grade 2 atypical meningioma removed along with part of my skull. Ive got a risk it can grow back in 10 years and it could be aggressive. All of these risks and could be’s have me in a tizz. I’ve tried to do a little research, even asked other people over on the Facebook groups (I’ve left Facebook it’s gotten too much) some people opted not to have the radiotherapy but wouldn’t say why, one person did say the radiotherapy could cause cancer later on in life. I’ve come this far, now I’m stuck, do I wait for this beast to rear it’s ugly head again And deal with it then or do it nip it in the butt now ?
My arguments for the treatment
Will I be fit enough for another operation say later in life
What it’s it’s cancerous and I can’t fight it
My arguments not to have the treatment
Memory loss
Cancer later in life
Brain effects
Can only one who has had radiotherapy please share there story
Or anyone else care to give me advice 😌

Hi. So many questions and you need to obtain support from this charity forum, McMillans, your medical team and of course your family. I did not have radiotherapy but I want you to know we’re here on this forum as a place that as being in the unfortunate situation of having this connection, we are in this unfamiliar place. You’ve got some massive questions and hope you can get some help with them this weekend and once the results come through with your MRI.
Have just looked into the McMillans support offered and you can sign up for a telephone buddy. Go into their website and they can assist with this process and try and provide valid advice and information. Worth a try. They’re there to help. Discuss your health issues. Your financial situation and also could open up any opportunities that you can get your teeth into regarding volunteer assistance when you’re feeling better 🍀
Thank you so much you’ve been wonderful, after the scan today, I find out on Thursday if it is safe, so I’m assuming I’ll have to make my decision then. 🥰
Please try to not overthink things today. You need a clear mind and as relaxed as possible. The mri machine is a scary looking machine but it’s clever. Not clever enough to work if you don’t lie still so be bigger than all this and start to own this. Remember to do the hugs, hold your significant others hand walking into the hospital and remember all the love that you have around you. It’s the love and support from everyone that will help you get through. And this forum has a section where family can also receive love, support and advice. Could be worth a phone call to them. They’ll be as confused and scared as you. Don’t forget Mr google can be your worst nightmare. Too much info will drive you and your family “silly”. 🤪🍀😊
I have just been given three options to have my 5mm nodule removed as it will grow...
1 they keep there eye on it
2 Radiotherapy
3 operation to remove
I have opted for the operation, (which I can have in November)as radiotherapy only prevents further growth and I have known people that have chosen that option and it came back more aggressive later on.
At the end of the day it’s your decision but do find out all you can About your different options ...
