I was diagnosed with latent TB and on Isoniazid since Aug. I feedback to a local subsidised Infectious disease doc that I had severe diarrhoea 4 days later, from midnight to morning disturbing my rest too. Doc downplayed the symptoms and until lately in early October, I developed fever and rashes too. Again e Infectious disease told me go for COVID-19 swap tests which turn out neg.
I decided admit to a private hospital when my urine color becomes dark brown like tea. To my shocking I was hospitalised when e doc discovered my liver enzymes shot up dangerous level of almost 1000. They also isolate my current medicines lists and pin point Isoniazid is e “culprit “ that cause DILI
I was discharged 5 days later and 1 month later my liver enzymes dropped to 400, hope by Dec full recovery of below 50 normal ranges (ALT, AST)
Did anyone experience diarrhoea and above side effects.? .,the private hospital did mention rifampin has less severe side effects on liver compared to isoniazid. But some info from Mayo clinic seems to mention both have similar liver damage side effects and rifampin also hav more diarrhoea related side effects too. Will appreciate your input!

Diagnosed the same in august and put on cocktail of drugs only to be told after two weeks they got it wrong and that I had atypical tb. Was then put on rifampin and isoniazid , the rifampin makes your pee dark orange (harmlessly). As for liver damage I was given a vitamin to help stop damage . Not had serious side effects yet .
HiI am also being treated for pulmonary aru TB. After 3 months, I developed severe skin allergy. The culprit were identified as Ethambutol and Isoniazid after trial and error. My doctor told me to stop these two drugs. Now I am continuing with Rcin and Pyraz... skin allergy is continuing but sort of bearable. My 1 month back x ray showed that my TB was almost healed. So doctor thought it was ok to drop those two medicine. After 3 months there will be another review to decide the next course.
Hi , This is an interesting post as these reactions are quite common. I had a similar experience with Isoniazid and left me quite poorly and in hospital. Anyone taking these TB medications must be thinking all the time,as not only are you feeling pretty crappy with the TB ,but reaction to the various meds can be masked, if you start losing appetite again, get a liver blood test.
