TB affecting physical features of body and morning cough.

Its been 4 years since I was diagnosed with TB. Took a full 6 months treatment with isoniazid and rifampicin tablets i.e AKT 4,3,2 and finally simple AKT. Though my doctor said that I have fully recovered and all my tests approved of it also. But even after 4 years I feel pain in my right lung which was affected by TB. The right side of my upper body is suppressed as compared to the normal upper left body (chest). The right shoulder has been tilted a bit when I notice it in the mirror. Is anyone else’s facing the same problem? Kindly share.

Also the coughing gets real bad when I wake up every morning. I feel breathless in morning but during the day it is all fine. I am diagnosed with sinusitis (pinched nose) as well so coughing is there. At times I get very confused about getting the TB back because of the coughing, as its first sign but all my medical tests are normal.

Since I had this pinched nose issue from childhood and there was a coughing issue since many years so I didn’t notice that I had contacted TB when I was 25 years old. The sputum test couldn’t detect it but I was suffering from fever above 104 degrees fahrenheit. So when I got my digital X-ray done, then the doctor noticed that my right lung was affected by TB.

P.S - height -5’10”

Weight- 70 kgs

Blood tests - normal

LFT, RFT - normal

I do cycling, gym, walk@2-3 kms daily.

Hi Ehinoma, have you noticed any change in the right side of your Upper body? Mine is a bit suppressed from shoulder to waist. Also the naval seems dislocated a bit. The right shoulder is a bit tilted too.

I don’t have this bodyache in the morning which you mentioned. But yes when I breathe heavily then I can feel some pain in the right lung. Doctors could not help and all they said was - “It will subside with time” but I don’t see that happening. I am thinking of starting some breathing exercises as recommended under Yoga.

On the other hand, The physical appearance has changed in terms of suppression of chest, which I don’t think will recover.

I have had the same problem with the chest pain. A lot of my joints also ache and they never did that before TB. I have found that doing 30 min in a infrared sauna 5-7 times a week makes a huge difference. I am asthmatic and it also helps that. The other thing that helps the pain is CBD. I do either the capsules or oil and it really helps.

Dear Hamkan,

I'm sorry that you have been left with health problems so long after beating TB. As you have seen from some of the responses you ahve received so far, this is not uncommon. Sadly, TB can cause damage to the body that may take a long time to heal or that will never heal.

It sounds like you and the other commenters are taking some really positive steps to getting over these health problems though. Keeping your body and immune system healthy through rest, good nutrition and appropriate exercise are all good ways to help.

I wish you every luck in your ongoing recovery.

Best wishes,

Helen
