Headaches with Isoniazid

Hi, just started this for my Latent TB and am experiencing terrible headaches in the night, it hurts my eyes and it’s there during the day after taking painkillers too.

I spoke to my nurse and she said Headaches aren’t a side effect but I haven’t changed anything else.

I’m also taking prednisone 10mg a day for my RA

Should I be concerned as nobody seems to know and did anyone else experience headaches ?

When you are on those drugs, it’s important to stay away from cheese and red wine or anything containing tyramine. It causes bad headaches. Good luck hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply - I don’t have either of those which is strange. I’m just worried incase I’m getting high blood pressure and I don’t know! The care provider professionals don’t seem too concerned and said it might be the drugs and your body getting used to them. I wish I could fast forward to next year 😫

There is a huge list which I was given with foods containing tyramine including fish. It’s a tough time for you and you will get through it

It won’t let me insert the image. Try putting in Google foods high in tyramine. Are you still getting the headaches?

Hi, no worries I’ll google the information . My headaches have stopped now which is good and they are not so scary now. I wish I had started them last year so I could start my new meds for RA sooner 😞Thanks for all your support xx

Hello Liveinhipe74,

I had Isoniazid for latent TB. I didn’t suffer headaches but they made me feel really strange, a slightly drunk feeling, dizzy & very emotional. After two weeks I was taken off them & had to then take Rifampicin only for 6 months instead of the Isoniazid for 3 months.

It may well be that food you are eating is interacting & causing your headaches.

Hope you feel better soon.
