Asthma playing up
Hi all, would ask if you are all ok, but i know the answer already if you are like me. My asthma took a turn for the worse again, had to go to my local walkin center for help, as both my lungs totally locked, (Cramp) and i could not get any medication in or out as i could not take any deep breaths,

hi My asthma nurse seems to have got her hands on something called a spirometer and was keen to use it on me the other day. I was surprised when she said it showed a normal reading when i feel that i stil have asthma symptoms. She didnt seem interested that the peak flow done the same day showed a reading

Pneumonia/Asthma/Undiagnosed and confused
Evening all, Right a bit of background: Im Laura, 22 yrs old. Used to smoke for about 4/5 years, gave up nearly a year ago. Got pneumonia in June last year. Was referred to the Infectious Diseases department of the hospital as they thought it was TB. Had a chest X-Ray that showed a shadow in my lungs

Reversibility testing
My GP has booked me in for a reversibility test in a couple of weeks, I got a letter telling me not to use my salbutamol within 4 hour of the test, does this mean I need to miss my seretide too? Does the test mean that she is now doubting the diagnosis or is it a normal part of a review? I'm not entirely

Attack, peak flow, hyperventilating & work :@
Hey I had an asthma attack this afternoon but my peak flow didn't seem too bad. could this be due to hyperventilating? it confused me a bit. Also, work really don't take it seriously. I find it hard enough as it is (got a thing about not liking making a fuss) but they seem to think I'm just trying

Hello and theophylline
Hi, I've been nosing about this forum for a while. If you can read through the background to my question about theophylline that'd be fab. Brief history. Have had asthma since approx 3 years old am now 36. Past 5 years asthma has gone from what I'd say pretty typical asthma is (low dose steroid

Newbie here....Inhalers not helping....
Hi, about 6 weeks ago I asked my doctor about my breathing (no immediate history of asthma - did have inhaler as a kid when I had lots of chest infections; immediate family members have asthma). Peak flow (EU) was about 330-370 (34 yo female 5ft 9in). Used Qvar for about 5 weeks and peak flow was still

peakflow improved since having steroid nasal spray
Does anyone share my experience? I was using salbutamol a lot and GP was not sure why. Anyway, he changed my nasal spray and eye drops to steroid rather than antihistamine ones, and I have used the salb. far less and my peak flow has improved. I also take loratadine every day. Maybe it is coincidence

Teenage Student new to Asthma
Hi, I’m new here and relatively new to asthma. I just had a few questions that I hoped someone would be able to answer. I had asthma as a child and as far as I know it was well controlled and one of those things that I just grew out of. I am now 19 and 2 years ago I moved into university accommodation

Specialists?
My son has brittle asthma, he's been very poorly on past hospital admissions. He's been to a 'specialist' for the past 5 years or more; I've never really been happy with the diagnosis nor treatment. For example, it took years to get allergy tests done and last year they tested him with the old (non eu

Resistance to Prednisolone?
Is it possible to develop a resistance to Prednisolone so it doesn't work as well? Is it a flare up?
I am currently taking Seretide am and pm to control my asthma which works fine. Every now and again though I feel as though my asthma is flaring up, my chest feels constricted and feel like i can't get a full breath in or out but the thing that confuses me is that my peak flow is bang on (530). Wondered

when to take antibiotics?
Advice please... I have drop in peak flow, had 2 attacks this week (not needed ambulance as extra steroid inhalers abated symptoms eventually). However, today I feel absolutely exhausted, have had some chest discomfort and sputum. So - when do you know where to draw the line and take antibiotics? I
