Ventolin didn't seem to work
In the early hours of the 27th December I had a severe asthma attack that put me in hospital. My peak flow reading was less than 120 even though I'd taken Ventolin through my spacer and the paramedics put me on the nebuliser. The reading hadn't gone up by the time I got to hospital. My usual peak flow

Doxycycline Antibiotic
Hi there Had flu/chesty cough which led to a chest infection for the Christmas holidays. Put on the good old amoxicillin antibiotic, which didn't really kick-in until the last day. Thought I was getting back to normal, although my sinuses were also playing up but this is not unusual for me. However

Feeling quite poorly all the time, is normal in winter for asthma?
Hi Everybody, wishing you all the best for 2018. I posted a couple of months ago about how my (late onset) asthma suddenly went out of control this autumn and started reacting all over the place to anything and everything. It seems to have calmed down a little, that is, it's not so volatile, but has

I'm looking for preventative advice to minimise asthma related problems and infections.... can you help?
Hey Up...I'm a newbie and on a mission. I stumbled across this site whilst googling for help and advice and it looks mighty supportive. Basically I was diagnosed with asthma at 24 (now 52). I also have scoliosis which affects my lung capacity (which is currently at 30%) but I am a "glass half full

A Newbie
Hi All, Firstly a very happy 2018 to everyone, I've been reading a few of the comments on here for a week or two now as I was recently diagnosed as having asthma. I'm kind of managing but have had a couple of "episodes" mainly during the night where I have woken up short of breath, tight chest, sweaty

Oxygen levels coming off attack?
After having a family member phone nhs line, they were urgent to send an ambulance but didn’t know how long it would take due to being crazy busy, so we decided to use our car to get there. Once getting there , I was clearly making a funny wheeze sound, everyone was staring, my chest was tight, back

Spriva
Happy New Year everyone I started spriva just before Christmas and I think it is going to work well for me. My morning peak flow is up by at least 50 (was usually around 250 now usually over 300) and I think I have more control through the day too. I’m wondering about side effects tho and how long

Different inhaler
So I’m gonna see my gp in about a weeks time about everything that’s been going on (see other posts) , should I be asking for a different inhaler ? I’m taking beclometasone 4 times a day, and it doesn’t seem to work for me; I was having real bad asthma symptoms about two months ago which is when I went

Hi. First post! Really would like an outside perspective. Diagnosed with asthma last year and after many different meds now on flutiform 250/10 2 puffs 3 times a day in winter (summer I was on 2x2) . Winter has been really bad for me, have had 3 courses antibiotics and one course of steroids so far

Hi, I don’t know if anyone can offer advice but my 38 year old sister has very severe Empysema, she was diagnosed about 10 years ago. Low-grade symptoms
For the last couple of weeks, I have been having constant low-grade symptoms. I would say on a scale of 1-5 that it hovers around a 1, sometimes a 2. It is a constant light pressure on my chest and getting short of breath doing simple things like trying to clean, going up the stairs, etc. During classes

9yr old newly diagnosed
Hi, I'm new here due to my son recently being diagnosed with asthma. He also has a severe food allergy. My problem tonight is that he had a pretty bad cough, a slight temp and I'm not sure if he needs to be seen? As this is new to me I'm not sure when things are getting bad as I don't have any experience

Cold virus and amber peak flow: should I call nurse?
Hi there, This is the fourth day of my peak flow being mostly amber with today and yesterday only reaching the 80% line with 4x puffs of ventolin and about an hour and a half after taking it, the effect has warn off. My PEF doesn't seem to be rapidly dropping, so I've been avoiding taking my reliever

How long should cough last after chest infection?
I've recently had two courses of antibiotics for a chest infection that I couldn't get rid of. Finished last course a week ago. Phlegm colour has improved from yellow to clear, horrible nasal congestion has finally dried up, but I still have a cough. I am taking two extra puffs of Seretide per day as

Asthma
I am using symbicort dry spray irregularly as I don't feel out of breath in day to day life. I am 64years old, healthy Indian male from Punjab but living in New Zealand for the past 20 years. My peak flow is 360. Is it OK or not?

Help: I keep getting tight chest from a variety of triggers.. have argued with doctor the other day...
Hi, I visited my doctor a while ago and he suspected that I may have Asthma. He gave me a peak flow meter test (result was 580) and a spirometry lung function test. I was then given an inhaler to use for 1 month and after the month passed I had another peak flow meter test which came out slightly lower
