Dazed and confused
Five weeks ago, my partner sustained a major trauma, when he fell down some steps and basically impaled himself on a broken glass bottle from the shopping he had been carrying, causing him to be partially disemboweled. He had emergency surgery to stem the bleeding, remove part of his damaged small intestine

How long is recovery?
My father went into hospital on the 3rd March for an ilesotomy reversal. Due to surgical complications he has had two further emergency operations and now has a colostomy. In that time he has spent several weeks in ICU on a ventilator and also had a tracheotomy for a while. He is now back on the ward

Hello, My mom has PSP stage 4, with peg installed nov 2016. Last Wednesday she was hospitalized with aspirated pneumonia. They ventilated her and removed some food we think might have been from pleasure feeds no more than 6 -1/2 teaspoons, stop if she chokes. The Tuesday before she had labored breathing

Dad off of Sedation and Vent but still not responsive. Help
Almost 6weeks ago my dad drove himself to the hospital saying that he had shortness of breath and swelling in his feet. When he checked in, his blood pressure was around 200 which is really high. The nurses say He was talking and everything but while on his hospital bed the Nurses say he had a seizure

Total oesophagectomy after having metal work from osteosarcoma of the spine go through oesophagus
I was given 2 other options, one was removal of metal work with removal of my oesophagus, a stomach pull up and removal of my voice box which would leave me with a
tracheostomy
and unable to speak, or the second was to do nothing and most likely only survive for 1 to 2 years due to sepsis in the cavity

TC and Tracheostomies - 'Normal Life'?
Hi, I was wondering if any others who have Thyroid Cancer has had a permanent
Tracheostomy
? What can and can't we do.. Obviously deep sea diving is out of the question, swimming etc.. (I often try and drown myself when trying to shower!) but how about things like Spas. Steam rooms, saunas etc?

4 weeks in and struggling to make sense of what the outcome will be !
so a bit of why I'm on here , my father in law suffered a fall and I turn a very severe brain injury 4weeks ago along with a cardiac arrest, we were initially told there was no hope with a horrendous outcome if he woke with no speech sight or movement! Well two weeks ago he started to communicate and

Advice - Thyroidectomy next week
In the pre op appointment I was told that a
tracheostomy
may be necessary although there is a very small chance. An even smaller chance that it would be permanent. This has really worried me.

A Bad Day :(
So yesterday was a really bad day. I spent most of it crying. Dad snapped at me and told me to shut up and said I interfere and talk to the doctors too much. I know its usual for patients to be snappy and moody but it was just the final straw for me. After worrying and putting my life on hold for

Consciousness, new here
Hi! My dad was hospitalized with pneumonia two weeks ago. He was intubated but now is breathing on his own. He's getting healthier. He's still sedated but they bring him out once a day to see my mom and sister. He's unable to follow commands, squeeze my hand etc. but he's also incredibly hard of hearing

ASPIRATION PNEUMONIA
The doctor gave her cefixime and advised us that she should get
tracheostomy
to remove the phlegm in her lungs. My family and I, including my mom, don't wanna get the surgery since once her trachea is open we have a feeling that it might worsen her condition.

I'm new here and my grandmother is in CSICU.
She still had a breathing tube in and they decided to switch from the endotracheal tube to a
tracheostomy
tube. She had the trache tube in for about 2 days before they had to perform emergency CPR/compressions because there was a blockage.
