Hi all
Have not been on here for awhile, been very down and depressed. In December I went to an MPN expert at John Hopkins for a second opinion on my ET and HU and basically because every forum for ET says you should at least once a year see an expert and actually my GP agreed and referred me to him. Hi, so I am kind of new here... so here's a bit about me... I'm 23, and was diagnosed with ET a few years ago. My platelet level varied between 1100 and 1600 and recently the doctors found out that my Von Willebrand factor is low, so on top of being at risk of clots, I also bleed strangely.... so on

Hello all, I have ET since I was 27 (41 now) and JAK2+. In last year I have been on HU, as well as my usual aspirin and warfarin (I am high risk; had liver transplant in '06 due to clotted hepatic vein - last year the hepatic artery clotted). Yesterday, I saw my amazing haematologist. She would like

Why am I always tired and sad? What can I do?
Hello, This is the first time I'm sharing something private on the internet. Usually I'm not a fan of discussions in forums, but maybe this is a good place. It's kind of hard for me to put what I feel into written words which many others will read, but I'll give it a try. So actually I'm a happy person

I discovered that my Intron A interferon was 3 months out of date when I went to give myself my jab last night. Does anyone know if this is dangerous? Thanks Mel x

Is this newest pill absolutely safe??
Hi everyone, thank you for all your insights! It seems to me that no one seems to get any harsh side effects from this new pill. I haven't had a liver transplant and I am concerned. May I say I've gone through every clinical trial which included interferon injections, pegatron injections with ribavin

Starting Interferon
Well that was an interesting morning! Went to my appointment knowing I'd probably need to start treatment as my platelets have been climbing for a while - had decided to opt for HU and negotiate a delay of a couple of weeks as I've got a very busy October. Ended up opting for Pegasys instead and injecting

Moving to Interferon
My husband is about to switch to interferon from hydroxy. I see all the info here on side effects which is a worry as life has felt quite stable for the last couple of years. Does anyone have more positive experiences with interferon and not had such severe side effects? Does it take over ones life

Hypercalcemia
Hi all. I have been diagnosed with mild hypercalcemia and a raised PTH level. I was sent by my heam for head to toe bone x-rays, which thank god didn't show multiple myloma, or other cancers and am now waiting to see the endocrinologist as an urgent referral. I know it's to do with the thyroid glands

Eyeing big returns, drugmakers ready new hepatitis-C drug launches

Waving Hullo!
hi there! Brand new here. I decided it was time to get some more support now that I have been placed on the transplant list. I was diagnosed with end stage liver disease 3 years ago, consisting of Fatty Liver, Hepatitis C and Alcoholic cirrhosis. I have been sober nearly 7 years, but did not get sick

Interferon monotherapy effective in patients with HCV thalassemia major
Interferon alfa-2b or pegylated interferon-alfa-2b monotherapies were effective treatment options in patients with hepatitis C virus thalassemia major, according to study results. “IL28B genotype was a strong predictor for sustained virological response, together with splenectomy, age and fibrosis,”
