Pelvic Radiation Disease Association
619 members
The PRDA community is a peer support group where people can ask questions and share their experiences as well as supporting each other in living with Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD). The group is run by the Pelvic Radiation Disease Association which is a UK based, patient-led charity set up to provide information and support to people who experience PRD following cancer treatment. PRD is a long-term side-effect (‘late effect’) affecting an estimated 100,000 people in the UK. We understand that people living with PRD can often have a complex set of symptoms which may affect their bowel, bladder, sexual and/or other functions for many years after radiotherapy. These symptoms sometimes only appearing several years or even decades after their radiotherapy treatment. PRD is defined as one or more ongoing symptoms of variable complexity that may affect people who have previously had radiotherapy to the pelvic region to treat their cancer. This includes pelvic radiotherapy for cancers of the colon, rectum, anus, prostate, testes, bladder, cervix and womb, but also total body radiotherapy and radiotherapy in the pelvic area for other primary and secondary cancers. Other words that are sometimes used to describe symptoms of PRD include: Radiation enteritis, Radiation proctitis, Radiation colitis, Radiation enteropathy, Radiation cystitis, Radiation cystopathy, Radiation-induced lumbar plexopathy and Pelvic insufficiency fractures.

Anticoagulation Support
3,803 members
The Anticoagulation Support community is for anyone impacted by a health condition such as atrial fibrillation, stroke, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), aortic heart valve replacement, antiphospholipid syndrome and thrombotic disorders. These conditions can increase the risk of blood clots or thrombosis and may require anticoagulation therapy to treat or prevent blood clots from happening. Anticoagulant therapy is sometimes described as a blood thinner and can be given for a short period of time (to prevent clots after hip and knee replacement surgery) or long term for people with thrombotic disorders to prevent recurrence of clotting episodes. Some people may be offered anticoagulation medication when they are being treated for cancer. Anyone requiring anticoagulation therapy should discuss medication options with a health care provider and be given adequate information around the duration and monitoring of the treatment provided. In the UK, there are several oral anticoagulant medications available - Apixaban, Dabigatran, Edoxaban, Rivaroxaban and Warfarin. Heparin is given by injection. Anticoagulation Support aims to help individuals engage with people who have lived experience of living with a condition and being treated with anticoagulants. The site is moderated by HealthUnlocked with input from an anticoagulation patient expert and an anticoagulation healthcare professional. For information about anticoagulation therapy and related conditions visit.... NHS website - https://www.nhs.uk/ National Institute of Health and Care Excellence(NICE) - https://www.nice.org.uk

Changing the diet industry "for good"; we believe that restrictive dieting "for profit" isn't a lasting solution; that being kept in fear of food isn't compassionate. We have recently received a grant from The Big Lottery Fund and become part of the Lloyds Bank School for Social Entrepreneurs. Nutriri has been meeting (in person) since January 2016; we are developing an online course and community to promote positive body image and conscious eating.
