Experiences with

Hydroxyurea

I have no iron reserves and follow a low iron diet, take Hydroxyurea and have phlebotomy approx. every six months now I have a haematocrit controlled to below 45%.

Nail changes may also be seen with hydroxyurea. I would be grateful if some of you that may have suffered from altered nails would take a few minutes to share some information with me.

Has anyone chosen not to take the platelet lowering drug hydroxyurea (spelling?)) I am 70 in good health generally apart from this so I would like to hold off as long as possible before going on to the drug Any input would be helpful, its all a bit scary.

I am also on Hydroxyurea 500 mg every other day. Correction that is Ataryx, previously missed spelled.

I was on hydroxyurea and had a bad case of herpes on my face. Now into about 5th week of anagrelide and now bad herpes on face. Taking aciclovir tabs but seems to be taking a while to clear. Has anyone else experienced herpes as a result of taking anagrelide and if so, any advice? Tinkerbell13

I was recently told that I have the jak2 v617f mutation and I will be starting hydroxyurea in the nextfew days. My RBC is 6.85, HGB 20, and HCT is 62.2 even though I have had two phlebotomies in the past week.

I've been on hydroxyurea for over a year now and have been getting blisters all over my feet. They are driving me crazy!!! Appointment with GP next week but just looking for some advice before I see her Any comments or help would be appreciated

I have ET and since starting Hu I have gained 8/10 lbs in weight (it fluctuates). I have been on HU just over 12 months and this has crept on since then. I have never had a weight problem before so this is unusual for me.

I am currently under a hematologist/oncologist's care ,have to get a blood draw to monitor the platelet count monthly, and am taking 1 500mg tab of hydroxyurea daily to try to keep the platelets at a safe level.When I was diagnosed with it,my count was almost 1,000,000 and is now down to about 480,000

Have been on HU 500mg a day since June. Recently increased and have found my INR levels have risen. Nurse struggling to get this under control. She doesn't think the HU would affect this but just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem??
