DIAGNOSIS????????????????
after quiting smoking I was given a spiro test by the practice nurse and was told that I had COPD, had the breathing capacity of a 92 year old woman and given a inhaler to use twice a day. ( I am 64 years) Full stop. Because there is no COPD NHS group where I live, I had no where to go with my questions

Not much change in peak flow during huge flare up - confused
I've been reading various bits and pieces of previous posts over the last while which mention this but I just wondered if as anyone in same position or can shed any light on this? . My peak flow readings vary very little despite major symptoms. I have almost always been 450 when well controlled and

That'll Teach Me! First Attack
Sorry to keep popping up, but it's such a relief to have somewhere to go to offload about all this. I say this is my first attack, but I suspect I've had attacks in the past and just not realised it was asthma. In all honesty I would probably have said I was coming down with a chest infection and just

Asthma's my latest diagnosis!
Hi all I've had all sorts of things since October 2012, including the flu (or something like it: all this is post-viral), post-viral hyper-reactivity, asthma (first diagnosis at GP), pneumonia, chest infections (various, 'treated' with antibiotics), pleurisy, HIV sero-conversion illness (after assessment

I'm sure I should know this really but I'm not certain. After a few month break, my asthma is rearing is head again and so I want to collect some Peak flow data incase I need to see the Gp,(not that peak flow is usually a good indicator for me!) I haven't properly done it for a few years, normally just

stepping up advice please
So after a 4-5 month period of NO symptoms what-so-ever asthmawise, I have been experiencing an increase in asthma symptoms since recovering from a throat infection 2 weeks ago. I have noticed big increase in mucous production, because of this I'm coughing more, Peak flow had become variable , I am

Broken rib tips?
Fell over, caught my rib cage on the corner of a bit of furniture, and I have a broken rib. I'm skinny enough that you can see that it's broken... :/ Day 3 today. Lots of swearing has happened! I haven't been to A&E as the treatment is just painkillers, mix of rest and movement. (I broke 3 in my 20s

More steroids and antibiotics
So today I have been back at doctors because I still feel rough. My manager told me to. I have had a bad cold which left me with a chest infection. I have had two lots of antibiotics and steroids. But still feel rough. My peak flow is still lower than it should be. My chest still hurts to breathe and

Peakflow Variation?
Hi all, I'm new to this, and just wanted to check what is a ""normal variation"" when it comes to peak flow? All the information I read says that healthy people will have some variation, so what is acceptable? For example my max is 460, but today I'm blowing 400 and the other day when I had chest

Peak Flow/?Asthma
Hi everyone, I've just been given a salbutamol inhaler for suspected exercise induced asthma, and over the next two weeks I've been asked to chart my peak flow before exercise, when symptomatic and after using my inhaler. The Doctor has also asked me to see an asthma nurse; I'm not sure if this is

Asthma and feeling low and poorly
Good evening everyone, I bet many of you are finding it more of a strangle now as the wet and cold weather has set in. My asthma has really started to play up since Saturday night when my peak flow started to drop. On Sunday when I took my peak flow it was down to 320 when my personal best is 450.

Welcome to the world of Pred
I've been coughing almost constantly now for 2 weeks (and i've completely lost my voice today too) so i decided it was time to see the doctor. I got in about 5.15 (not bad in our surgery for a 5pm appointment). She did all the normal tests - tempertaure / look in my ears and throat / peak flow and listen
