Leuprolide: Eligard VS Lupron (1 month, 3 month, 6 months)
============== Also: What about
Firmagon
(degarelix). I understand that it is an antagonist whereas Eligard and Lupron are agonists? Is that so? That doesn't sound so right to me?

Is There Still a Role for Bilateral Orchidectomy in ADT for Metastatic Prostate Cancer?
Recent Egyption study [1] comparing physical castration to Degarelix [
Firmagon
]. (Degarelix is a GnRH [LHRH] antagonist. Traditional chemical castration drugs such as Lupron are GnRH receptor agonists.)

Why should I continue with ADT ?
I became "castrate resistant" after about 3 months on my initial ADT (
Firmagon
) and since then I have continued having similar injections which seemingly have no reaction to my pca state.

Russian Roulette
The doctor wanted me to get a three month shot of Trelstar and I refused based on the fact that I was doing fine on
Firmagon
. The doctor’s explanation was you could only be on
Firmagon
for three months which I knew was incorrect.

Looking for advice
MO suggest continued
firmagon
for (though she insists Lupron, would do the same thing) and revisit everything in 6 weeks. Urologist recommended Xgeva and insisted
Firmagon
is better, lower cv issues and effects 2 areas of testosterone. What would you do?

Blood count concerns
After a F-18 DCFPyL PSMA scan located the recurrence in a handful of pelvic area LNs, I began monthly
Firmagon
shots, Zytiga/prednisone...and hit the LNs (and all those in the vicinity) with RT. RT ended in May and now the plan is to continue on with the other measures thru next May.

Update
Started
Firmagon
with PSA of 14. After one month down to 4.5. Original diagnosis with biopsy showed cancer in 11 of 12 cores. Gleason 4/5. Started chemo, docetaxel, and changed to Lupron. Almost stopped chemo. Side effects were hard. So sob could hardly walk up steps.

One month on Xtandi with mCRPC
I had some kind of adverse synergistic reaction with
Firmagon
9 days into Xtandi treatment, but switched back to Lupron yesterday with no apparent side effects. Yay! Labs 2 days ago showed my PSA at 0.135 and testosterone at 30. What a relief!
