New here!
My name is Sheila, i have
emphysema
and bronchiectasis, although the main question is low oxy level readings, any feed back would be greatly appreciated!! Just happened to come across this site for the 1st time the other day and was amazed how good it seems to be.

The Planning Begins...
Mike and I have been learning a little more about
Emphysema
and he has decided we need to move. We live in the mountains of TN and we are 3500 feet above sea level. He has more trouble here in TN then when we were in Florida a few weeks back clearing out a house.

Smoked since birth!
At 58 I now have
emphysema
(albeit mild currently) and wonder about it all. No point in crying over spilled milk for me but it makes me shudder to realise that my smoking may have harmed my son ( I too smoked in the house until he was 9 - he's 27 now).

Steroids and Osteoporosis
Having recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and having lived with
emphysema
for some 14 years, I am perplexed by the medicos don't prescribe vitamin D and calcium at the same time they prescribe corticosteroids.

Travel insurance questions
I have
emphysema
and bronchiectasis. Earlier this year whilst in Spain was admitted to hospital with pneumonia. Insurers paid up for everything. Now I come to renewal. I tell them I have
emphysema
and bronchs. I tell them I was in hospital with pneumonia during the last year.

Hello again
I'm not sure if anyone will remember me, I was caring for my mum who had
emphysema
, and sadly died at Christmas. I think it may be my turn to need help now. A routine health m.o.t with our practice nurse has lead to the probable diagnosis of
emphysema
for me.

Just in case you missed it.
There are two main forms of COPD: 1) chronic bronchitis with long-term productive cough, and 2)
emphysema
with lung destruction over time. Most people with COPD have a combination of both conditions. The more a person smokes, the more likely that person will develop COPD.
