A BRIEF HISTORY OF RA AND ITS TREATMENT
I thought it would be interesting to delve into the history of RA. It goes back pretty far; farther than I thought it would. Some skeletal remains in what is now Tennessee (USA) date back to 4500 BC and have shown some signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis. So far, that’s been the earliest appearance of this

I had a cortisone injection in my knee yesterday, and it hardly hurt at all. This morning I feel as though I have a new leg ... it's wonderful! Now I want to trot back to Poole Hospital and have the same in all my other achey bits, but that's probably not allowed. My lovely rheumatologist asked

I've really had enough - what shall I say at my next rheumy appointment?
So I have been through the was since being ill in February, and then being finally diagnosed at the end of may. have been on sulfasalazine, and im not seeing much improvement. I have had a bakers cyst too, which after having 4 weeks off work, the necessary drainiing and cortisone injection, has decided

Knees and hip have joined in the party.
Hi All, Went to the hospital yesterday after having had more blood tests xrays on my knees a few weeks ago. Can't straighten the left knee and the right one keeps giving way!!! Orthopaedic asked how i was and i mentioned my left hip as it is sooo painful, seems to be trapping the nerves in my leg

Feeling down
I have been in pain for over a month, had a couple of cortisone Injections on Thursday and fluid taken off my knee! But shoulder is still painful and I am taking pain killers. But I am so angry and down and feeling sorry for myself and keep going back to bed and sleeping, which is making me more fed

Fed Up!
Since I was 14, I have suffered with migraine. They used to be once in a while, at most twice a year, but in the last ten years or so, monthly. I no longer have a menstrual cycle as I had a hysterectomy at 33, so it isn't related to that. The pain is overwhelming, sometimes up to 48 hours when I can

Another plea for abatacept experience
Hi, I have written on this subject before, but I am sending out one last request before making up my mind. I have very long term JCA ( 50years) and have had many replacement and revision ops on knees and and hips, in last 20 years. I had always maintained my RA with NSAIDs with the occasional cortisone

Well looks like all the excitement about Sean being so well on new drugs has come crashing round our ears. He was suffering with hayfever sun night/monday and on tuesdy ended up being admitted to hospital. His p/f was down to 25% and inhalers/nebs not making any differnce so on iv salbutamol in hdu.

Hi all, I am hoping that someone out there can offer me a glimmer of hope!! My 11 year old son has had brittle asthma since he was around 5 years old, but has been a severe asthmatic for 10 and a half years. He is in and out of hospital all the time and is on huge doses of medication to try and keep

Suspected allergy to 'preventer' inhalers - what to do next?
Hi, I'm new on here (big hello to everyone!) Whilst my symptoms/conditon is no where near as bad as a lot of people on here, I could really do with a bit of advice. My new GP suspects that I have an allergy to cortisone/steroids as it runs in my family. But well, it seems that he's a little bit confused

Having has EIA for a number of years, this year it has been worse and also impacting on my everyday life. I historically too ventolin before exercise which used to work well but had stopped having

Advice please, pain in ribs!!
I am a 29 year old woman who has only been diagnosed with asthma since last May, when due to hayfever allergies I ended up in bed for a month struggling to breathe with prednisilone and salmeterol, clinil and antihistamines. I had to leave Germany where we live in order to recover. I recovered better

Pain means something IS wrong!!!
In my own experience, if something is painful there is generally a good reason. After only running W1R1, my knee started hurting, almost 2 weeks later, not much better. No use going to see my GP, as I know I would be told to take pain killers and anti-inflammatory tablets and maybe given a Cortisone

My Trigger Finger Adventure
Most of you have probably experienced trigger finger; but for those who haven't, it is a fairly common "side effect" of RA. The flexor tendon in the finger becomes irritated as it slides through the tendon sheath tunnel. Over time the flexor becomes irritated, it may thicken or nodules may form, making

A Late Hello!
I remember promising to start blogging back in January - then school happened, life happened, and now we are working on the end of July. OOPS! My name is Mercedes and I have had RA since 1995, a month after delivering my son. My RA was like a light switch - I went back to work after maternity leave
