Travel vaccinations
I’m travelling to Bali in April and been recommended to have Typhoid, Tetanus and Hepatitis A boosters. Has anyone experienced any issues following these vaccinations please? Currently on 0.5mg Pred and no intention of reducing further until after the holiday!

DBS. Did it improve your life as much as you hoped?
Well I feel the DBS conveyor belt moving again, bringing me closer to the surgery date. I have an appointment with Professor Silverdale in a couple of weeks and I have questions to ask. Can anyone reading this who has had the surgery give me their honest thoughts as to whether the DBS surgery has improved

Thank you!
🧡🙏 Our heartfelt thanks go to Nicola Dow for raising £1970 on her fundraising day on 20th January. Nicola organised a fantastic pub event with a pub quiz, Mr & Mrs, bingo and bonus ball raffle in addition to another raffle that raised a further £900. During the event Nicola gave out lots of information

Shingles pain
I've had shingles with continuing pain. Wounds like a burn and a scratch are taking ages to heal. I am older, 66, and I know this can happen. Any suggestions for tests I could ask for and is there any point asking for them. Best wishes Fiona

I was diagnosed May/June 23. I had just had my diabetes check and all was OK. Fast forward to December check and definitely not ok! I had been eating low carb and had lost weight. Life became very difficult from October with a nasty fall, mental heath crisis for our grandson while we were looking

How I reinvented myself after PMR
I have sat here and thought to myself I haven’t reinvented myself at all, I then thought again and realised that yes I have. Before my symptoms started I worked part time in a major supermarket and would take overtime. I started the symptoms and carried on thinking everything was okay and would improve

I’m scheduled to have DBS surgery February 29 - if you have had DBS, is there anything you wish you‘d known beforehand?
I want to prepare mentally (and physically) for the surgery, and would appreciate any input from members of this community who have had the experience of DBS surgery. Thank you in advance. Wayne

Kinder , Gentler and harmless Alternative of DBS
Seeking a kinder, gentler alternative, researchers from Korea's Yonsei University created minuscule magnets tagged with antibodies. The devices are known as nanoscale magnetic force actuators, or m-Torquers. These m-Torquers were injected into the subthalamic nucleus of mice with early- and late-stage

‼ The lesion featured in this post may look like eczema or benign skin lesion, but it is in fact a melanoma! In rarer cases, all types of melanoma can lack pigmentation – these are known as amelanotic melanoma. Jane’s story below highlights just how important it is to get any abnormalities checked out

Chronic Hashimotos and long term side effects
Hi, I was diagnosed with Hashimotos 41 years ago after 6 years of feeling awful. A locum GP spotted a goitre in my throat as I was talking to him. I have been on 100 mcg of Thyroxine ever since. Now I am 66 . I have always suffered from hypoglycaemia-type symptoms after any type of exercise (even

Nausea - is it the pred, or something else?
Hello and thank you for the constant flow of useful insights. I know that stomach problems are a known side effect of steroid use, but I couldn’t see anything under nausea in the FAQs - sorry if I’ve missed it. This is my story: I’m 73, PMR diagnosed in summer 2020; since when I have reduced successfully

LDN for RLS
HI all , I have severe restless legs every night . Have developed Augmentation from being prescribed Ropinerole, as so many have on this Forum. Have been off Ropinerole for 2x weeks now after a slow distressing withdrawal. I also reacted badly previously to Gabapentin , thus am reluctant to start Pregabalin

Has anyone tried low-dose naltrexone for RA?
Hi all, I’m wondering if anyone has tried LDN for RA and if so, your thoughts? I’ve read it has been used off-label to decrease inflammation. Thanks, Helen
