My cardiologist stopped me from taking
Amiodarone
last Aug, because I was so ill with it. I'd been on it for over 3 years and apparently, patients are'nt supposed to stay on it long term. So why was I? I was'nt put on an alternative, because we agreed I'd try without and see how I got on.

Update from today
Of course this is probably because of the
Amiodarone
taken for the last two months prior to the CV, and it's unlikely a) to stick, or b) for me to be able to stay on Amiodarine long term IF that is the only way to keep me in NSR So how do I feel?

Iodine Excess as an Environmental Risk Factor for Autoimmune Thyroid Disease
Moreover,
amiodarone
has a long half-life and easily accumulates in vivo. Therefore,
amiodarone
has been shown to be the most common medication source of excess iodine and a risk factor for medication-induced thyroid disorders [43,44].

I've not had any procedures yet as the
Amiodarone
got me back into rhythm- but I'm desperate to come off it and try something else. Thanks for reading this rather long-winded post and thanks for anyone who can help!!!

How do I slow a rapid heart rate?
In November I started
Amiodarone
even though I asked for something less intense. Heart rate shot up to 135-140 after beginning
Amiodarone
.....and has fluctuated from a low of 125 to a high of 140 since then.

Consultant changes his mind again!
On the not recommended list in the pill box I have found the following: anti-arrhythmic medicines to treat an irregular or rapid heart beat (for example digoxin,
amiodarone
or beta-blockers) I take!

TSH Levels
The overactive thyroid was initially caused by
Amiodarone
that I was taking for a heart arrhythmia which I no longer take.

CONFUSED
From research I have done when first put on
Amiodarone
you should be monitored. He was not. I need some input desperately and so does he. Why is this so difficult to determine?

Cardiologists and Antibiotics: At Odds at BestMelissa Walton-ShirleyDisclosuresJanuary 21, 2015
Anyone taking
amiodarone
should definitely read this article. I doubt that many doctors or pharmacists mention these possibilities since the risk is low; and, worse still, may not even check the particular patient's health and medication records. Health care is great if you survive it.
