On Actemra and 8mg Prednisone....trouble with tapering. Please help!
I spoke to my rheumatologist this morning who said he wants me down to 7 mg in a month to assess if the
Actemra
is working or not since the goal of the
Actemra
is to get me off prednisone.

Taper
Now on 4mg of
Actemra
and wonder how I taper. My numbers have been good for four months now. I am so impressed with your knowledge as well as your ability to communicate. Any help would be appreciated.

Tocilizumab and Covid19
Doctors in southern Italy have been supplied with stocks of tocilizumab/
Actemra
to trial in Covid19 patients. It had shown good results in China - but there are so many poor quality trials that the Chinese are unable to get recruits for further work.

Has anyone heard of this
Took methotrexate and then
Actemra
with no change. Few months ago my new rheumie prescribed hydroxychloroquine 200 mgs. It is a drug that prevents and treats malaria of all things but I have also read tat it is used as a steroid sparing drug. Well I am down to 1 mg pred and am hoping my PMR.

What are the expected effects of tapering?
I also do weekly injections of
Actemra
. The first taper from 64 per day to 32 I felt nothing, from 32 to 24 I had a period of a few days where I was uncomfortable and then things seemed to balance out.

Good Prednisone Sparers (and Bad)?
Before I go, can you share your experiences with Methotrexate,
Actemra
, and anything else prescribed for that purpose? Not excited about Methotrexate, particularly since it doesn't seem to work for a lot of us.

Is PMR possible with low markers?
Does taking a weekly injection of
Actemra
effect those markers? I'm content on 24mg of methylprednisolone.....but what will the Doc say? Have an appointment in the afternoon for treatment of a small leg ulcer....so you will all be in bed in the UK when I get home!

Weight gain on actemra
I did not have a significant weight gain with the initial prednisone medication but since I started
Actemra
in November 2019 I've gained over 20 lb. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What has been your best solution? Any support from your doctor's?

Another newbie
The rheumatologist has suggested I may be eligible for
Actemra
. I will see him on 14 January. I would be grateful for help with questions that I should ask him. To the people who started and run the group, thank you.

Normal Sed rate, CRP, on Actemra for 2 1/2 months, trouble with Prednisone taper
I have read several posts emphasizing the need for a slow taper, but when I tried reducing from 8 mg prednisone to 7.5, my GCA headaches returned, along with the usual prednisone withdrawal symptoms, for me the worst being fatigue, nausea and muscle pain. I went up to 8 mg after 3 days. My rheumatologist

I’m a GCA patient who is new to this site... being treated with Actemra and having a difficult time with a prednisone taper
I’m also hoping other
Actemra
patients can share any experiences they have with this drug. Will the headaches and fatigue ever go away??

Mycophenolate
I am very disappointed they haven’t given her
actemra
( the biologic drug that is specifically for GCA rather than these old poisonous drugs that haven’t helped her , but seems to be the approach of the hospital to save money even though it’s not that expensive- she is in the UK).

low numbers (roactemra)
I have diabetes (type 2 insulin based) and rheumatoid arthritis and am on a new medication called roactemra for arthritis. since it has been working properly my numbers have been low, almost normal. problem is I´m still on cortisone too (which put my numbers high) and am afraid when I come off the cortisone
