I am doing the daily challenge of British Rowing, called Row31. Today I caught up with the weekly 10 minute time trial.
It is an interval session, row 1 min strong and then 1 minute rest. Repeat 10 times.
What is so nice for me about rowing is that I can see my improvement so clearly. As a runner, I’m such a slow plodder that the improvement rather lies in the distance I am able to run, but not the pace I’m running that distance in.
However, with rowing, I can have that experience of working to improve my pace.
Today was such a session, and the improvement compared to week 1 is there to see in the stats!
1) I’ve improved my pace from 2:25.7 to 2:20.2 (500 meter average … I know, rowers do this strange thing of measuring their speed by 500 meter stretches). But that is rowing 80 meters further in the same time of 10 minutes!
2) I also managed that by a lower stroke rate average (32 strokes per min vs 34 in week 1). This means I’m rowing stronger! (E.g. if I sped up to 34 I’d be even faster!)
So pretty happy!
