I actually had a stressful but rewarding day at work co-hosting an important symposium of ca 100 people. Felt utterly exhausted but simultaneously like Wonder Woman afterwards.
So what to do? Well, I’m still not running, so the next best thing is to jump on the indoor rower and do the row that you didn’t dare attempt until now!
CTC’s THREE MILE ILAND Challenge!!!
CTC Challenges are quite fun, but quite complicated. You basically have a specific rowing challenge every month, and once you’ve rowed it and put your time in, the website calculates not only your individual performance but also puts you into a boat, and once the boat is full with 5 rowers (minimum of 1 lightweight and 1 woman), it’s in the race. Every single rower can then attempt to improve their time, and with it the boat their being put in. So there is constant movement in and out of boats. Really fun!
I knew the row itself, though, was going to take it out of me, but I set my sights on a specific steady speed over the 3miles ( pace of 2k minus 6), and managed to hold my pace ok-ish and actually ended up with an average of 2K minus 5. (I probably should update to using this as my 2k pace but huh 🤔… then I don’t get to brag about holding 2k-5 over 3 miles! 😅)
I did struggle in the last mile and had to make up for it with a faster stroke.
With that I launched RowAlong boat number 8! (RowAlong is the team I row for, as it’s a also a team challenge). So virtually I’ve dragged the boat from the boathouse to the shore, and am just waiting for some other slow-row tortoises 🐢 to join me! (As you can’t launch or ‘float’ a boat until their 5 rowers in it.)
I know, all sounds weird, right? The website c2ctc.com will probably make it clearer. ( you can find me in the last RowAlong boat)
And to top it all off, on Zwift this row unlocked a cool, orange-y top and shorts and shades!
Happy rowing everyone!
