Hi aloftman, there are many things that will help. Do you have a support for your knee, if the doctor hasn't given you one you can buy them on line for a small sum. Do you exercise other than walking? Riding your bicycle lying on your back for 10 mins per day will definitely help but better still do you go to aqua-aerobics, riding your bicycle in the water definitely helps as it strengthens the muscles in your upper leg taking the strain from your knees. I have also read that not eating enough protein after exercise can cause muscles to weaken, so after your walk/exercise eat protein. Try these and I hope they work for you. Good luck Maximonkey.
Hi aloftman. Are you able to get some time with a physical therapist (PT)? It sounds like it would be a good idea to make an exercise plan to strengthen all the muscles and connective tissue around your knee, so that your knee is better supported and balanced. It would be best to have a PT advise on doing that, and also to find out what is going on to cause the pain. One thing we do know for sure is that pain makes us less likely to exercise, but exercise is one of the best ways to reduce joint pain. I know it sounds back to front!
