Has anybody tried going dairy free. It is supposed to help with inflammation and as my hands and feet are really painful at the moment I'm tempted to give it a try.
Dairy free diet: Has anybody tried... - Scleroderma & Ray...
Dairy free diet
Gosh no not tried, but don't have much dairy items. A 2pint bottle of milk lasts me about 7/8 days and even then I throw what's left out. But will look into this and do some research. Thanks.
Hi,
I,m a strict vegan which obviously means no dairy. I have noticed that the raynauds particularly in my feet is better, and that there has also been less swelling in my hands. Stands to reason really as dairy is an inflammatory food. Even cancer specialists often tell cancer patients to cut down on dairy as its a 'growth' food, ie its not meant to be used once we have finished growing, it then makes other cells 'grow' ie cancer cells. I guess it may do the same with the autoimmune process.
I don't know about helping Raynauds, but certainly anyone with lung complaints are advised to refrain. I find cheese especially bad for creating extra mucas?? inkedup's comments are worth noting! x
I've cut out dairy and most meat (have the occassional bit of chicken). I'm not sure if my raynauds has improved but my digestive system doesn't feel like its under as much pressure. It's worth a try at least
I went on a dairy free diet for months years ago. I also went on a nut diet. Nothing works. I have enough restrictions so now I eat what I fancy and what the size of my mouth lets me.
I have been dairy-free for over 25 years (pre-Scleroderma times), and I know immediately when I have some by mistake or error (mucus production). Four years ago I went to an allergy specialist who tested me for a big range of potential allergens. Wheat, dairy and msg came out as problems, so I have deliberately cut them. In my opinion, all Scleroderma sufferers should get similar tests done. The NHS won't help here, so you have to help yourself, and go private / complementary. Does cutting them out help? Anything that cuts out inflammatory responses must be good. So far, my Scleroderma is 'Limited'.
I went veggie 5yrs after being diagnosed with Rayauds and then Vegan about 3-4yrs after that, now about 7-8 yrs ago and my symptoms have greatly improved and painful swelling has completely gone.
It's worth a try to see if it helps but it should benefit you.
I think anything you can do to cut out inflammatory foods can only help with Sc symptoms. I know that is easier said than done. I have cut out most dairy this past month. I'm not sure it has helped or not. You really need to read all packaging labels as it seems that gluten, dairy and soy are in so many things. Even when I think I'm being good at eating gluten/dairy free, I find that I can still do better. I try to replace some of my favorite foods with "safe" foods, but I still need to acquire a taste for the exchanged food. Dairy was my go to food before I was diagnosed last July. Vegetables seem to be safe, but, of course I don't want to grab a vegetable when I open the refrigerator door. I would like to have an immediate reaction when I eat food that may cause me harm. So far, I haven't really experienced that.
Did you try dairy free? How did it work for you?
Yes, I went dairy and gluten free and got better
I'm waiting to see a specialist on the 15th they think I have scluderma knowing that I am proactive I have gone on the Paleo diet it's no Dairy and no bread for the first time I can sleep through the night all the way since 2006 I hurt my back back in 2006 and thought that was why I couldn't sleep so it never bothered me I never thought it could be due to a diet my hands have gone down a bit and so have my ankles. Praying they don't make me go vegan.
