I have no idea what to call this and, I'm posting here purely because of my Pm - scl 100 antibody, but I have developed weird hard, scaly, rough patches of skin in the 'sit bones' area where my bum cheeks meet my hips. Both sides. I'm not overweight nor am I really thin, (low but normal bmi) I do not sit all the time, don't ride a bike but I swim and do daily exercises. These patches are not red or itchy but are beginning to 'split'. I've always had quite dry skin and typically moisturise after every shower and swimming and this works well and have never gad any issues.
The only info online refers to pressure ulcers, mainly for people who are bedbound and very ill or dying. One thing I read mentioned muscle loss in the buttocks.
Anyway, does anyone here have anything similar?
I'm on hydroxychloroquine abd methotrexate for connective tissue disease and Inflammatory Arthritis. I eat well!

I have diffuse systemic sclerosis since 2011. When it first started I also had the hard scaly patches in the same area on both legs. My dermatologist looked at them & they are part of scleroderma (I thought possibly a morphea as well). over the years they have disappeared - moisturising did nothing for it. I do still have dry scaly patches between my thumb & index finger on both hands, they never go away!. I hope this helps you. I am also on hydroxychloroquine & methotrexate.
Hi L, since I noticed them a few days ago I have been mega moisturising and it doesn't seem to make any difference. another member mentioned using a cracked heel ointment which I reckon is probably a better approach than moisturising. The patches are almost like leather - were yours?
Yes they were exactly like leather and sensitive when sitting. I had also lost a lot of muscle in my buttock area, which unfortunately has never returned. But the patches did eventually start to shrink and then gradually disappeared altogether. Good luck.
I have a funny patch in the same place, but occasionally it is very itchy and hypersensitive. I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve wondered if it’s a pressure area as although I try to keep as active as possible, there are days when I’m sitting about as I’m not well.
I have similar patches like that in the same and about 10 years ago I had to have surgery to remove a hard fibrous nodule sub-dermally from my left buttock. Histology showed that it was benign fibrotic adipose tissue that the doctor put down to the scleroderma. If the skin is cracking I would suggest a urea based emollient such as Flexitol heel balm. It’s for cracked heels but works wonders on all cracked skin.
