Hi everyone,For a few years now my fingernails split then the nail breaks, taking a peice of nail off. I have sent nail cuttings off for checking but nothing comes back. I have done this twice over the years but Nothing.
GP has no idea what it is. Recently I had my toenails cut at a salon and she says it could be caused by Raynauds. That makes sense.
Now my big toe has gone black down the inside, I don't recall dropping anything on it or any reason for it to turn black.
Has anyone on here suffered with this?
I am on Sildenafil 2-3 times a day.
Look forward to your replies.

Yes to the nail splitting with Raynaud’s. Also lichen planus can do this too. However, not wishing to be scary, but you need to get the blackened toenail looked at urgently to exclude malignancy.
I have had Raynaud's for over 20 years. My nails have always been bad with splitting and ridges. My rheumatologist doesn't pay much attention to that but he does look at my big toe to make sure it isn't getting black. This is something you should definitely talk with your doctor. I started on Sildenafil last year. At first I was very hesitant since I hate drugs but now take 2x daily and my blood flow to my fingers and feet is better. Take care!
Hi Byoungda,Thank you for your reply. I wasn't sure if I dropped something on my big toe. I dont recall doing anything to it though. It is down the side. Maybe I should ask someone about it.
I have had Raynauds all my life really. I went to hospital appointments 25 years ago and they gave me tablets that really worked immediately. I asked my doctor about these tablets last year, but he had to contact NHS for my notes then I was referred to my Rheumatologist. She said they didn't really use those tablets these days.
I now take Sildenafil 3 x times a day. Don't think they really work as I'm still very cold.
