Random leg warmth

I have systemic sclerosis (thankfully mildly), fibromyalgia and a few other add ons. In the last few days I keep getting a warm sensation in the front of my left thigh muscle. It's quite random and doesn't last long. Dr. Google says it can be veinous flow issue which sounds dire so I wondered if anyone here has had this experience. Many thanks.

I had that or something very similar a while ago. Almost like warm water randomly pouring down the front of my thigh. People on here suggested it was nerve damage and indeed it came after a period when I had been sitting a lot in cars, trains and at the computer and not doing my normal stretches or exercise. So I did stretches and went for short walks a lot and indeed, the feeling went away quite quickly and hasn’t returned.

More recently I got it shockingly badly and painfully on the back of my thighs, again after sitting a lot for several days. I panicked about vasculitis or even bedsores or something! But again stretching, physio exercises and walking or standing rather than sitting is easing it.

Morning, When the warmth comes my thigh actually feels slightly warmer to the touch. When I spoke to the chiropractor she said that while things like sciatica can feel warm, it is not usually felt on the skin. However, I am going to see her for a check up this afternoon. I regularly go for short walks and also do a little gentle yoga first thing in the morning several times a week. For the last couple of days I’ve been doing yoga legs up the wall for 20mins in case it is a veinous issue. Covering all bases and trying not to panic!

Thank you for replying so quickly and sharing - it really helps.

Hi,

Good morning,I had this yesterday in both my feet, they felt very warm ,it lasted maybe an hour then went away, I wondered if it was due to Raynauds.any enlightenment would be good to know.

Sorry I can’t help but thought I would add your not the only one with this sensation.

Morning, It sounds like you may be suffering from Erythromelalgia. If you go on to the SRUK website and type in Associated conditions, it will show you a list things that can come along with scleroderma and Raynaud’s. Erythromelalgia is one of them. Hope this helps.

Hi folks yes interesting point I find sitting for long periods is the worst thing for loss of leg sensation and strange loss of feeling etc.

Also do keep an eye on your Vit B12 level, mine plummeted to the floor without being picked up and it turns out pernicious anaemia is to blame as we are susceptible to that if we are taking lansoprazole or similar, and just generally with Systemic Sclerosis of various types, mine is diffuse. A course of injections solves the issue but it creeps up and causes nerve damage and even more fatigue than usual!

Hope it settles for you

As I am inclined to be fairly sedentary, reading books etc. I do go for short walks and do a little yoga. I take a methylated B complex vitamin each day as it is recommended for my fibromyalgia. I agree that sitting too long is not good and try to get up and walk around fairly frequently.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

hi Oleander, yes the front of my thighs get a hot feeling, now only seems to happen occasionally after lots of walking. When it first happened, early diagnosis, I mentioned it to my rheumatologist and she just shrugged. As others say stretching helps.

I definitely think rheumatologists and other doctors don’t have all the answers as we, as patients, come with so many different symptoms. My GP once told me that I would become a specialist in my own condition. It’s interesting your warmth happens after walking.

Thanks for replying and sharing with me.
