Travel with oxygen

Good morning. I have diffuse systemic scleroderma with ILD. I have a portable oxygen concentrator for when I’m active/walking. I have booked a holiday in July and am wondering if anyone has booked/taken a POC with them or arranged for one at the destination. I have booked Crete but I’m willing to change my destination if it is difficult to organise in Greece. Any advice greatly appreciated

Taking one with you might be easier than trying to organise one there. You're probably best to speak to your airline about it - I'm sure they'll be able to offer advice. I hope you have a great holiday! Greece is beautiful!

Hi there are some oxygen concentrators that are allowed on airlines. Not all unfortunately so you will need to ask your airlines what approves ones you can carry on the aircraft. I am on oxygen and the concentrators doNot do the higher airflow I need so I am not able to travel abroad with it. When I’m Tenerife I was quoted £1500 for a two week supply of oxygen cylinders. Good luck with this.

Hi LMB1366,

Sorry to jump on board your posts. I have a neurological condition as well as a now working diagnosis of SSc. I cannot take medications for this condition as they would react with existing heart meds. I use High flow oxygen (15) to help alleviate pain (can be agonising in my head).

I can get small portable canisters for when I’m away from home, but as these attacks can happen in clusters throughout the day these canisters do not hold enough oxygen. My question is are you using a high flow portable concentrator and if so could you give me the name of the company? Any information you can give would be most welcome, thanks.

Hi again, just re read your post and you do say you cannot get a high rate portable concentrator, sorry I misunderstood your post. I was told by my oxygen company that they could arrange a supply of high flow normal cylinders to any destination (think they must have

some sort of reciprocal arrangements within Europe). But

don’t take that as being definite, have you asked your oxygen company about this?

Hi, it is easy to rent or buy an oxygen concentrator in Greece. I have been to Crete, in Chania. You can find also in travelwithoxygen.com. Enjoy your trip !!!
