Hello everyone. Hope you are all keeping safe and managing despite everything. I must admit, the last two days news and confusion is a bit of a low point for me. Not helped much with an awful eruption of my gut problems. I’m about to start Metronidazole for this problem and normally if the antibiotics are three times a day, I try and space them evenly, in this case every eight hours. But they say take with food. I normally tryout to eat after 8pm so I thought I’d ask what others on this forum might have done. I have taken one course before and remember having snacks at 10pm with it but my reflux is not good at the moment. My gut (huh!) feeling is take it at breakfast lunch and supper as surely it works better with food.
Thanks

Hi, yes, that’s what I do. I try to get up a bit earlier so that the last dose of the day can be a bit earlier. I find it is very effective. Good luck xx
Thanks Sosie. Glad you found it beneficial. Do you alternate with Ciprofloxacin? My rheumatologist suggested I did their. My gp was against me taking this because of side effect of possible tendon rupture. I had a course months ago and did get weird pains in my ankles but didn’t think anything of it. I tried another course a few weeks ago and lots of clicking problems walking and pain. Because of the warning from my gp I stopped taking them as once they warn you it’s scary. Bit worried about becoming immune to Metronidazole if I only take that though.
I can’t alternate antibiotics because I have a penicillin allergy, so I just take metronidazole. My doctor advised starting it at the first sign of diarrhoea for 7 days. I thought that I would end up taking it for about a week every month. I have been surprised at how long it has kept it at bay - I probably only need it about every three months or so at the moment. Sounds like you should just stick to the one at the moment too xx
