Nipple Raynaud's?

Hi everyone.

I'm new here and I've joined because I'm writing a paper on Raynaud's and breastfeeding and wanted to see if anyone out there has also been affected by this.

It's a really under-recognised condition and is frequently mis-diagnosed as recurrent thrush. The pain is really quite excruciating and often women have to give up breastfeeding because of it without knowing what the problem is, despite it usually being so easy to treat. I'm hoping to raise awareness of the problem in any way I can, so it would really help me if you wouldn't mind sharing your experiences of painful breastfeeding.

Thank you

I dont have scleroderma diagnosed and also dont breastfead BUT suffer from nipple raynauds sometimes and it's the painfulest thing in the world.

Last time was because of eating half kilo of ice cream... felt like dying from the pain.

There're a lot or nerves in the nipple so raynaud there hurts a lot, but a lot.

I just have other episodes of cold and numb in my feets but with no color change and my hands are colourfull and cold by default but nothing I can relate with raynaud.

But my nipples do have the palid white typical raynaud effect...

Thank you so much for this!

Yes, it is really impressively painful, isn't it?! Plus it doesn't help that people think you're a bit crazy and it's not recognised by many people (including doctors) so it's not easy. I aim for avoidance at all costs, which is a lot easier now I'm not breastfeeding, although I have also found that the less I trigger it, the less easy it is to trigger, so as long as I'm careful I'm much better than I used to be.

Also, oddly enough, I have found that my various auto-inflammatory conditions have massively improved since I have managed to improve my mental health, so most of the hand pain I now experience comes more from nerve damage due to previous Raynaud's rather than new attacks of Raynaud's.
