Does Anybody else have to take Folic Acid with their Scleroderma
Never heard of that for Scleroderma what is it supposed to do. Hope it works and where would you buy that from.
I take it twice a day but have dun since a baby due to an hereditary blood disorder. Have they said y u need to take fir the scleroderma as I was only diagnosed with this about 18 months ago
I to take folic acid but only take it once a day. I to have Scleroderma but also have two blood disorders as well. I have a suspicion it’s given so the body absorbs the other drugs we take better.
Hi there, have they identified that you have a specific deficiency? What dose do you take 3x a day? Often folic acid is prescribed if you are on methotrexate because it is a folate inhibitor.
I am not aware that this is prescribed as standard because you have scleroderma so there must be some other reason specific to you, your symptoms or bloods.

Good luck with your quest.
Hi. I have been on 5mg folic acid daily for the past 2 years but this was prescribed for me as a necessity along with methtrexate....which is a immune suppressant. I have scleraderma, and secondary raynauds. Never heard of folic acid being given as a treatment for scleraderma so presumably you have a deficiency.
From a Google search: "Folate-deficiency anemia is the lack of folic acid in the blood. Folic acid is a B vitamin that helps your body make red blood cells. ... Without enough oxygen, your body can't work as well as it should. Low levels of folic acid can cause megaloblastic anemia."
Yes, i was perscribed folic acid, 5mg per day. I am also on methotrexate. Was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma and raynauds 6yrs ago. The methotrexate gave me oral thrush, so bad i couldnt eat, the folic acid seems to keep it at bay. Best wishes to you.
